PM a mod and get this done as a Sticky as it seems a good idea for a thread

Fabia TDI new in 2001, crashed it

Fabia TDI 2001, bought 2004 - still have it (mongrel)

Can't really claim to have much other car history but I have dabbled in randoms but never for long.  I do have an old porsche 924 lying around SORN and unloved.

Bought not brought :)

Vauxhall astra 1.6 8v club (dads car but drove it more than he did)

Mk4 ford fiesta 1.25 si (first car that i owned, still have but sorn typical ford rust but havent the heart to get rid of)

Mk1 fabia vrs (needed a bigger car after my dad died as my mum and gran struggled with 3 door fiesta and astra was to expensive to keep, funnily enough though by coincidence the mot on the fabia lands on my dads bday.)

Been done a few times but I suppose these threads never get old really.

1989 Vx Astra Mk2 1.3, 4sp, 3dr. A pretty horrible car but it was so simple very little went wrong and it cost peanuts to run

1997 Vx Astra M3 1.6 16v Arctic. Asthmatic engine but felt quite nice at the time and had AC.

2001 Ford Focus Mk1 1.8td, great car sold it too soon, still see it occasionally

2003 Renault Clio 1.5dCi 100hp, PITA to insure since it was a 2004 model registered on 31/12/2003. the 100hp was really odd and made from various cars. Megane engine and gearbox fitted in a Clio. Oily bits were perfect for the 80k I did in it but everything else crumbled. Could do insane mpg, I got 86mpg on one 50 miles run.

2007 Octavia VRS TFSI hatch - My one and only new car. Kept it nearly 7yr, was starting to rust which was disappointing.

2010 Honda Accord Tourer 2.2 DTec - Bit of a Dad car but has it's charms, like 750mi from a tank vs 380 in the VRS.

Clio is the only car I've regretted buying and the Focus is the only one I've regretted selling.

Here goes, 1, mk1 astra 1200s (x)

2, mk1 fiesta 950 pop (y)

3, mk1 fiesta 1300 supersport (x)

4, talbot horizon 1500gt lol (w)

Too many to bother listing all, but some here:

Golf Mk1 (1100);

Mk2 Cortina;

Mk2 Sirocco GTi;

Cavalier GLX;

Passat Mk2;

Opel Manta GT;

Opel Manta GT/e;

Volvo 240GL estate (needed a load lugger at the time)

Triumph 2000TC Mk2;

Lancia Thema;

Renault 21 (oh dear....);

Mercedes 190 2.0E

Focus 2.0 Ghia estate;

Skoda Fabia Mk1 Vrs;

Volvo S60 2.4T;

BMW 325;

Volvo S60 D5 (220BHP tune);

Skoda Fabia vRS SE

Best car = probably the 325 (E46) as an all round reliable, well made decent handling car.  New beemers don't hold any interest at all for me.

Worst car:  toss up between Lancia (which quite literally fell to bits) the Renault 21 (dangerous on wet roads due to flawed braking system and poor balance) and Cortina (oh dear oh dear...what a pile of crap!)

Most fun:  No contest...Fabia vRS

Most comfortable:  Volvo S60 by a country mile

Most reliable: E46 325

Least reliable:  See "worst cars"

Quickest: Tuned D5.  Monster torque.  Unbelievable mid range punch and in-gear acceleration.

Best all rounder:  Focus Estate

Cheapest to run:  vRS

That was the Lancia Beta - the Thema was based on the same platform as the Alfa 164 and Saab 9000.  There was a version called the 8.32 which had the engine from a Ferrari 308 installed.
