Featured Replies

Right... ive managed to get myself my own website-thingy (neo-vr.net if anyones interested)

Ive also been playing about with some php applications/gallerys.

just wondering what other people use and reccomend, ive currently got wordpress and some gallery called coppermine installed, and id be buggered if i know how to play/configure them. :o

im mainly interested in the gallery, but it will eventually be expanded into a bigger "personal" site.. hence the wordpress blogging thingy.

does anyone know any decent online resource to help me learn php?

cheers - t'internet n00b

I know nothing about PHP I'm afraid Col.

I had my template made up for me and I use dreamweaver to edit it.

Someone else who is bored and playing about with net stuff.

I'm waiting to find out if I still have job at the end of the day today.

Must be the season to be jolly...same boat, today or tomorrow...or 6 months in London for no extra helpings of monkey feed.

For a gallery, I use IDS (Image Display System) - it's really easy to set up, and highly configurable. Naturally, I haven't found time to configure mine fully to look pretty so instead I'm going to give this link: http://ids.sourceforge.net/examples.html which is a list of their reference sites... ;)

For blogging I have an application called "GeekLog" installed, but I have never used it...

You could try http://www.php.net as a start. :D

One could argue that you don't need to learn php.

The quality of opensource packages over the last 2 years has come on so much you really don't need to see the code anymore. Unless you want to tweak it of course ;)

But if not then pop over to www.zend.com good free client there and some examples, failing that I have a big black book and lots of other php books.

I also have a rather handy I think you'll find application for you if you really want a go at somthing php, network/monitor based ;)

Col, Gallery wise, really only one choice IMHO, gallery from menalto. v2 is due soon and it also has a handy java client on your desktop, you drag drop images it does the rest inc resizing etc...simple yet wonderful.

Have a look in your fantasico panel, there is also coppermine, but I'm sure gallery is there, if not shout.

We find out today if we have still got the contract for UU or if it has gone to Fujitsu.

It accounts for 80% of our work so it will be tupe over to Fujitsu or redundancy :thumbdwn:

Col - try looking at the Open Source CMS website - they have reviews of blogs, portals, image galleries, etc, and run demo versions of each, allowing you to log in and have a play, without having to install the software yourself.

Personally, I use textPattern or Etomite for blogging/CMS. Not sold on any image gallery yet, although I've tended to use Menalto, as I really didn't like coppermine.

Need to install something to show our wedding photos, so will have to find something. I have a friend who uses this, which I really like, but you have to pay for it :(

It's out now - think I'm going to install that today for the wedding snaps... :)

Neo, you don't need to learn to use PHP if your just editting a pre-made gallery. What you need to learn is maybe CSS and how to Photochop.

Im using that coppermine photo gallery aswell, works a treat, I used it for photos of our prom, but it expanded to other categories.

Looks good

Ive been dabbling with simple PHP on wordpress, testing changes... im getting there slowly... CSS is the next thing lol

Version 2 of the menalto gallery is a lot better than the previous version so far... Very slick installation pages, and it's a little more obvious how to do things than it was before :)

I'd post the URL for mine, but I've only had time to upload one image so far...!
