Cooled Seats

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me how the cooled seats in the Superb work? I know they blow cold air through vent holes in the seat, but I'm wondering whether they connect to the the air conditioning system or have a peltier element in the seat and reject the waste heat somewhere else. I'm mostly wondering how feasible retrofitting a cooled driver's seat would be is as it's the only item not in the spec of the car I have that I'd definitely use.

If anyone has a rough idea what the cost would be that would also be a big factor in deciding whether it's worth doing. The current car has full electric driver and passenger seats in cream leather, so the other question is whether the vented seats match this well enough not to make a driver's seat only change feasible.

The leather seats are perforated.

A fan in the seat base sucks air through the holes and exhausts to underneath the seat.

They're not actively cooled at all, just a fan.

I guess you'd need the whole seat to be replaced plus some looms.  As far as I know they're not CAN bus interactive, so just power would be required which is probably already present under the seat.

Have them in mine, cooled is not the correct term, it should be ventilated.

Would I have them again - probably not, not really sure how effective they are.

In the Handbook it states  that they are  ventilated:

First read and observe the introductory information given on page 70.

Heat and condensation can be removed from the seat cushions and seat backrests
on the front seats.
The ventilation is operated using the rocker switch  Fig. 55 ( page 71) in the front part of
the seat cushion, in front of the seat control elements for the electric front seat
adjustment.
Switching on: Switch the rocker switch to position 1 - lower intensity and to position 2 - higher
intensity.
Switching off: Switch the rocker switch to the centre position.

They are very effective and do remove a lot of body heat from the seats, Use on high setting until you notice the drop in temperature ( depending on initial heat 5 minutes is about normal for me) then use the low position for a short while, you can then turn them off, then an occasional short burst on high will keep them nice and cool. A long trip in very hot weather with Air con working giving a nice cool vehicle, then spoiled by body heat causing sweating sitting on a leather seat, which does have air holes but are not effective in keeping you comfortable.

I have had 3 MkII Superb Elegance vehicles, the first just had the leather seats with air holes, the next 2 Superb Elegance  L&K  vehicles had the ventilated seats, and the difference is very noticable, my next Superb Elegance L&K vehicles hopefully will have them as standard, if specs are lowered before next vehicle I will certainly have the ventilated seats added.

In Ireland they are not standard on the L&K. €600 option unfortunately so I didn't bother with them but could have done with them over the summer! I would have preferred the ventilated seats over something like KESSY - which BTW I notice has now become an option on the L&K over here in the last few months so more dumbing down on specs!

Thanks for the replies :). I'm guessing pricing will be high for this - so if it happens it'll be a lucky find on ebay.

... or you could just have cloth/velour seats and save yourself the hassle/expense. Leather might look better, but for actual driving it is a pain IMHO.

I found the cloth seats in my Octavia about the same for sweating up as the leather ones I have now - the main difference being the leather ones didn't smell vaguely of gym locker all summer.

My new L & K has them as standard, not sure about them really... I have tried them and they do produce a slight "draft" to the base and backrest, but not sure they are effective really...

I am a "sweaty" type person who happily likes and appreciates what the ventilated seats do. Well they work for me personally.

Ventilated seats is the option I would choose everytime. They work great in conjunction with the AC. While the AC cools the interior down, it will never cool your bum, that's where ventilated seats come to rescue.

My L&K has them, used a lot in the recent hot summer days. I noticed they were very cool when I had the aircon on. Simply gives a more pleasent environment for driving. Each to his own suppose :)

Revisiting this again as I'm wondering whether anyone here knows whether the elegance level heated memory seats can be upgraded to heated and ventilated memory seats. Is it possible to replace the existing covers with the ventilated covers and fit the ventilation fan and switch to the electric memory seat base or is the ventilated seat fundamentally different?

In the links below the ventilated seats aren't listed at all and I've had no luck finding the parts online. My car has ivory leather, which I have seen in ventilated form on one L&K Superb.

This seems to be the right listing for the seat and back I have now, but there's not enough detail to be sure: http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/SUP/year/2011/drive_standart/632/hg_ug/881/subcategory/881010/part_id/2562522/lang/e#sec_40

First, the seat cushion must be perforated.

My 2012 K&K has them and they are great in "sticky" weather, they came as standard, i'm not sure what I would pay for them but do miss them when I'm in one of our other cars.

I'm proposing to change the seat covers to perforated ones.

By any chance could you try the VIN for your car in the website I linked above and see if you get different part numbers for the seats? The seats are in the 'body' subsection near the end of the webpage.

This website doesn`t reconize my VIN.

And mine is MY 2014, but I guess the seats are the same.

I discovered that the passenger window glass changed from a clamped mount to a barrel mount around 2010, which meant the scrap yard window I found wasn't right even though the shape of the window didn't change, so it's not a given. Thanks for giving it a go anyway :).

The only number I have access to is the chassis no on the original documentation. The site doesn't recognise this will see if I can check the VIN in the dark

Just checked and the chassis no and VIN are the same = so the site isn't recognising my VIN no. Sorry - pop over and have a look if you like - we're 109 miles from Fishguard :-)

Run my VIN through three other sites including Skoda with no problems.

I suspect that because the data on the website I'm using is free it's not necessarily complete :). I'll keep looking anyway. Thanks for putting in the time to help too.
