I'm looking to improve Sharky's braking but want to stick with VAG parts, does anyone have suggestions / experience?

Sharky is a Yeti Greenline so I'm hoping a straight swop from say a 170 Yeti is possible if I can get hold of some callipers & carriers.

Does anyone have other suggestions? A swop from a VRS maybe?

I've got to be able to get them under the 16" wheels, but larger discs with carriers to adapt should be fine, I'm assuming the CR170 has larger callipers? If not I'll just upgrade the pads and keep the existing callipers.

Yes from memory the 170 uses 312’s which fit inside 16” wheels.

 

Rockhoper did the conversion when he has his 140 remapped IIRC.

Don't know what sized discs you have now, but 312mm (off many VAG vehicles will fit under 16" rims.

If the hubs are the ones with fixed caliper carriers then you may almost certainly need new hubs + the carriers. 

Vrs type hubs use a 55mm dia damper and fixed carrier hubs are 50mm, so dampers may need changing too.

 

All the above is based on what I had to do on the octavia. The calipers were the same, so there was no real need to change. 

Your Yeti may have differences of course. 

 

I paid £200 for the whole caboodle from a written off Sirroco which had done 106 miles, the pads weren't even bedded in,  viaebay.

 

The whole effort was really worth it.  The ball started rolling when I suffered almost total brake fade crossing the Alps, not something I wanted to do again. 

I am considering a further up grade using the Porsche/Brembo calipers, looking for a more responsive feel. 

The reduction in unsprung weight won't go amiss either.

Carriers ordered, as I'm looking to keep things OEM, does anyone know which manufacturer produce VAG brakes?

Obviously 312mm so I'm guessing any listed for Yeti 170 or Octavia VRS would fit, any recommendations?

All manufactures will have a policy of multiple suppliers for these sorts of parts.

The Sirocco which gave its all so I could have better brakes used Pagid.

Other people have mentioned other manufactures parts in their OEM brakes.

My Pagid ones are fine. Quiet, low dust, effective, long lasting. I'd use them again.
