I really do wonder what melons traded some of those cars in

No idea but I hope they're enjoying the heaps of tat they bought from the likes of Renault, Mitsubishi and Peugeot

Oh man, I just cried into my Weetabix reading that list! Such a shame so many classics were just thrown away like that.

At the time of the Scrapage sheme folk were buying old wrecks with an MOT for a hundred or two pounds then trading them in for the £2k. discount.  Bit of cheating going on there but what do you expect with a Government scheme.  Some traders made it thier Bread & Butter income.

I'm not sure you were able to do that. I thought you had to be the registered keeper for at least a year prior to trade in?

I guess this is what happens when you have politicians that aren't interested in cars or our automotive heritage! They should face the courts for allowing such wanton destruction of vehicles (though not in the case of the 9 Morris Marina's / Ital's or all the Protons  :giggle:)

Surprised at how many Ford Pumas met their maker (480 odd)! Thought these were regarded as future classics?

Yep, they are - utterly cracking. However they rust and many are owned by daft people with no idea as they're 'cute'. Real shame as good ones are getting rare now.

Ther were ways and means around that.  Call it cheating if you like.
