What are you running ?? I'm looking at buying a set my budget is between 200 and 450 hit me with you're experience ?? I want reasonable ride quality and would like it to be at least 50/60 mm lower than standard cheers guys :-) pics with how low you are and what could will help with my decision aswell :-)

Go with AP coilovers but take rear adjusters out. Ive just got them instead of joms as they were shocking, got a nice drive now not too crashy.

I've been looking at ap but from what I've heard they are "budget" / mid range ?? I don't mind crashyness as such as I don't drive the vw much anymore :-( if i did long commute then is be more enclosed to buy fully adjustable

I've been running jom coil overs for the past year and while I can't fault them for the money (I paid 180) the ride is really starting to get on my nerves as they are pretty harsh and bouncy.

Do not get jom coilovers they are terrible.

I've had ap's on 3 cars now and imo they are excellent.

What about vmaxx ?? Any good ? Same price as aps roughly

I felt that vmaxx were a cheaper coilover compared to the AP's. I think AP's are made in same factory as KW

AP's have the same build quality as the more expensive brands. They are just more basic. But they are highly praised and won awards for the amazing value for money. I have them on my TT. They have a good ride (provide you don't "slam" it), not really any firmer than my OEM suspension. I'd recommend them highly.

Running AP's too and really like them. I've got them set low but they ride well!

They can handle a decent amount of power too. There's guys over on the TT forum with 280-300hp running AP's with no complaints.

AP's are you're best bet however, they don't go very low. I've got adjuster cups and rubber mounts out in the back and this is as low as I can get it to go, not that I want it any lower it's sat perfect for what I use it for but if you're going into all this 'my car's so static' buisness you're better off going with jom's or the likes.

I ran APs they awesome I now run kw v2s witch are even better :)

I'm running KW V1's (not available anymore) which are the same as weitec's and possible AP? and can't fault them. You get what you pay for.

If I were to do my suspension again I would probably go for KW v2 or 3, which are a lot more expensive than others.

Although I consider my coilovers to be "comfy" the minute you put her right down the ride really suffers, becomes very stiff and with the Twists' I was running at the time, I disliked my car, although this was a second hand set-up ....

This was with the rear adjusters out and the front wound down to match the rear....

And this is how I am now.... Same brand (but new) and the ride is very good in comparison. Rear adjusters in and set to the second picture...

This is the sorta ride height I want I have these wheels and are gettin a refurb now In almost certain this car is in this forum somewhere but can't find any pages :-( I have the 8j versions of these wheels so in a way I am going for the "stanced" look but I also want it to handle although it won't be seeig any track days or anything like that

Stance +handling don't work well together unless you have air ride unfortunately.

Yeah, most slammed cars will handle like crap. But try telling that to the Bora and Golf crew. Doesn't it pretty much reverse the centre of gravity or something ?

They have siezed :(

I've taken her off the road to sort it as the front dropped a lot more than the rear when I had it put in and looks a little off with the naked eye.

Any suggestions for freeing them up?!

I basically want what's above :-) not overly "stanced" but flush with the arches

cover them in maintenance spray for a few hours and let it soak over then try, always how I free things off it's like miracle spray !! Haha if that doesn't work you'll have to try heating them up

Awesome, will give the spray a go.

Cheers dude.

Slammed cars handle brilliantly on billiard tables, trouble is there are no roads that smooth in the UK and as soon as you hit a bump mid-corner and get that 'my whole life flashed in front of my eyes' thing going on you'll understand that slammed is for urban cruisers, not B-road blasters.

I'm on Eibachs over Bilsteins, Cupra bushes, Whiteline RARB with 15" S3 pepperpots and asymmetrics and it corners like it's on rails even on the really bumpy stuff, on my standard 14" steelies with Uniroyals it does it in the wet as well. My brakes are standard because I don't have to slow down very often, brakes are for nervous drivers, just feed the steering in on a balanced throttle and go round, no roll, no understeer, just gentle complaining noises from the tyres although it does tend to feather the inside edges of the fronts.

I remember the first time I went to the big breakfast meet and seeing a slammed MK1 Octavia. It pretty much bounced over every hole and caught the front bumper constantly. I dred to think what the underside of his car looks like.
