fitted aftermarket philips stereo how to keep a live to it so dont lose presets

Featured Replies

Hi guys, fitted an aftermarket stereo to the fabia the other weekend and its now starting to annoy me lol. Just wondering if there is any wires that can be swapped at the back so the stereo comes on with ignition and so i can keep my radio presets. Any info/help is appreciated thanks

Mike

There are TWO 12v supplies (one permanent live, one ignition fed)

VAG uses these the opposite way round to most manufactures, so simply swap them over and all your presets will remain stored and it will turn on / off with the ignition.

Spot on. Do you by anychance know what wires (colours) they are? Cheers

Mike

I would be guessing at red and yellow, but there will probably be an inline fuse in each wire, so just take the inline fuse holders apart and swap them round (so for example the red wire now goes to the yellow wire ... etc)

Well i checked and its just confusing me lol. Theres 2 ignition lives but one still holds 3.83v when the ignition is off and the other stays at battery voltage until key is pulled from ignition...there is also 2 constant battery voltage wires which are both the same colour of wire.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Dude, you need one switched live which you've found already (the one that goes off when you pull the key out) and ANY one permanent live, colour really doesn't matter.

Had this on my car the other day, just switched the cables (intact my loom had torpedo connectors for that exact reason) also not sure if they're called torpedo connectors :p

also not sure if they're called torpedo connectors :p

Bullet connectors :p

Bullet connectors :p

Damn, new it was something like that >.<

Try my post in the Fabia tech section............

From looking at your post it looks like i need to switch either pins 5 or 7 with pin 4? Im sure this is what i tried last night and i had to switch off the cd player manually and when i do the central locking opens the doors????

But when i remove the key from the ignition when the wiring is the right way round it will open the doors

What do you think?

I joined the red n yellow together to make it permanently on :) .....I think

Why the hell would you want to do that.....peanut butter flat battery time

Clearly this staggeringly simple and already answered topic is just going to run and run...

Someone blow it's brains out please.

Because I turn the radio off and it saves the presets....  Same as it does in every other car! Not had a flat battery since I fixed the notorious cable under the car! Does mean I can listen to music without turning the ignition on (that'll flatten the battery if ur not careful).... Same as leaving ur door open with the interior light on all day...

Sorry I missed the answer lol

Why comment then?

Obviously not staggeringly simple to me, I just want to do it right first time so dont end up going out to start the car and its dead, also not wanting to mess up the new head unit fitted or wiring...hence why I posted on here

Because you've already had the answer, me and Giz already told you everything you needed to know. Stop being so bolshy.

Just swap the switched and permanent live connections round that you used when you first fitted it.
