mounting place for BT mic

Featured Replies

Just purchased a Play IO 2 to replace my aging Parrot CK3100 kit. It has been playing up for quite some time and I have finally had enough.

I originally mounted the mic for the kit in the light, but people I called complained of wind noise from the roof. I moved it on the inside of the cabin, stuck to the light uni but I think it looks a little naff.

I know owners of the Amsden were able to purchase an OEM mic that fitted in the light unit perfectly, but my question is has anyone fitted an aftermarket one up there and what did they use to get around the noise issues? I am wondering if I can buy a small amount of sound deadening to go round the mic? An OEM look would be great although the Play kit comes with two wired units, screen and controls that I will need to find places for

My Parrot MKi9200 is mounted in between the blowers and bolero, and the mic is ran up the A pillar and just sort of flops over the top of the pillar trim. No reports of bad sound/voice capture. Mic for Bluetooth CD player in my Ibiza is mounted in the same place.

My screen is between the blowers, not that I ever use it, and on previous cars I have stashed it behind the dash bacause I have a screen mount for the phone, but anyway.... the mic is at the top of the pillar, or on previous cars by the hinge of the sun visor.

My current Parrot screen is in the middle of the blowers too, just think the mic would look good if you couldn't see it but I may revert to the A pillar which is where I mounted it originally before spotting the option behind the light unit

I have a parrot MKi9200 and I have the screen tucked up out of the way in the corner of the A pillar and the mic up in the centre of the screen behind the mirror, I have the auto dimming mirror so is bulky enough to hide it and not one person has mentioned any noise what so ever, a perfect kit! The mic is the twin mic kind which is made to reduce such noise anyway, but that's my offering mate!

I am going to post just now about the needs of using a 2012 Bolero head unit that I have just purchased (awaiting delivery) with the built in BT so that I can get rid of the parrot, the wife has already put her name on it although I want it to go in my Volvo 850 T5, but we will see! Will I need any further equipment etc, but I won't hog your post bud!

My Octi is a 56 plate aswell by the way!

Hope my bit helps.

Behind the mirror is not a bad shout. Am going to try the OEM look first and see if I can find a decent amount of space to mount lots of fabric to muffle the noise, failing that behind the mirror like you

I get excellent call quality with the mic tucked in at the area where the headlining meets the airbag cover on my Superb.

I know people like to hide them away as much as possible - but I think of it like this:  I have the BT kit to be able to make safe calls.  If I'm worry and faffing around / getting stressed because the other party can't hear me well, that defeats the object.  You really want a direct line of sight between the mic element and your mouth, and for it to be as close as possible to your mouth.  The location at the door is much closer than the mirror and completely unobstructed.  People I speak with regularly tell me they can't tell it is a hands free, the calls are that good.

My kit just arrived and the mic is huge, I will try it hidden as I kept knocking the old one on the a pillar but if I have to I'll move it.

Got all the kit fitted, but the screen doesn't work properly, I get lots of pixelation :(

After issues with the cable for the screen as shown above, I was sent a few new parts to try and now it is all installed.

Much prefer the way I routed the cables so that the module is wire tied behind the glove box instead of behind the climate control unit. I have also run the USB for updating so that it sits just on the outside of the glovebox so that I just need to open the door, remove the cover and update although using an old XP laptop is a little annoying.

Here is where the mic is and even though it is huge, it sits neatly out of the way and works

I decided to keep the controls near the unit as I didn't feel comfy using it down behind the gear stick
