I though Rapid / Spaceback / Toledo were aimed at budget-conscious motorists.

But 1 dealer on AutoTrader has a sticker price of £20465 on one. (thats 26000 Euro for offshore readers)

Thats nearly 8k more than the sticker on mine!!

I could have something used like a 3.2 alfa spider with the change!

What's the most you would pay for a rapid?

  • Author

It gets worse -  £18550 for a spacey with out satnav or climate or glass roof!!

You can pay significantly over £30k for a Vw Golf these days you know.

If you spec one up they are a crazy price.

That's the nature of the beast when you spec a car up.

For me, they don't make much sense over £15k.

Not found the right one yet, spec and price wise but no more than £10.5-£11k. For that it's got to be no more than 1 year old with minimal miles on it. I decided I can't afford new.

Our SE retail with all its options, including metallic and extended warranty, should have been £18860. Just glad I got a good discount because I'd have felt a little short changed at that price, even though its a very nice car and has just about all the tech I'd ever use.

2 brand new spaceback 1.2 SE on autotrader now £11000 !!

Found one, thank you for the info, very good price, but wrong engine and colour. Still a good buy.

Again I found a Spaceback there £11.5k good price, correct engine, wrong colour (black)

Yes I am being picky but if you've got to put up with it for a few years I want a colour I like.

I look on a daily basis, for used mainly but now you've opened my eyes that there are new bargains to be had I'll search them too

Thanks

It's a shame if people do pay that sort of price cos they will have an awful shock at the depreciation. These cars seem a very good buy for 10 or 11 thousand but I wouldn't part with 20 even if I had it , there is an awful lot out there for that sort of money.

Use carwow and drivethedeal, whatever you do don't pay crazy list prices. Has been discussed recently, I specced one that would suit my needs at £18.5k and got carwow quotes for £14.4k.

So long as you get the car at sane prices (you can even import it and get Rough Road Package and try to spec xenons as well, elsewhere in Europe dealership prices are far saner than in the UK), fully specced diesel Rapid makes perfect sense. Particularly as a budget long range cruiser, as it is considerably cheaper than a Mk3 Octy of the same spec and diesel Rapid has 30% more range than the Mk3 Octy (64l vented fuel tank in Rapid vs 50l non ventable in Mk3 Octy). Rapid is also more than adequate for 2+2 family. I am increasingly suspecting that UK list price for the Rapid was ratcheted up because SUK rightly thought quite a few current private Mk3 Octy buyers would have been tempted to cut back car spending and get a Rapid instead. To me, Rapid is the true successor to Mk1 Octy, Mk3 Octy is a corporate offering IMHO.

agree with 15 - 16k price max for a Rapid as it is now nothing special compared to what else is out there  personally it is over priced , which is prob the reason my local dealer wasnt selling any.

I didnt even look at Rapid as an option when it came time to move on from the MKII fl Octy.

Look around for ex display models, good deals to be had and usually well equipped.

What about the new Fabia 3

The Elegance line-up offers the broadest array of engines, including a 1.4 TDI with 104bhp which isn’t available anywhere else in the line-up. That engine will cost you £16,840. ( Standard, no extra's)

There getting a tad expensive

Another question, not prices of the car but VED.

How do Seat manage to have their Toledo 1.2TSi 105ps engine in band C @ £30 VED yet the same engine in the Rapid is in a higher band @ £110???

Small deisels are no longer worth buying new, unless you intend to keep it for years and/or do mega mileage.

Save 2k and get the Skoda produced TSI 110.

If you go abroad regularly, a diesel car gives you instant 20%-30% cost saving on fuel, depending on direction of travel. Diesel fuel in Calais is at £0.96/litre today... and if your travel involves Luxembourg it's £0.88/litre there. Even at small mileage the savings quickly add up.

Not to mention diesel engine being a lower fire risk and having longer range in case of Rapid  (petrol tank may not be vented, so it's 55l petrol vs 64l diesel fuel tank capacity).

For as long as I travel to Europe and current price differentials hold, I'll stick to diesels.

Stop/Start maybe?

Yes the Toledo TSI has stop/start and therefore lower emissions. on Rapids look for Greentech spec to bring emissions and tax down

Most Rapid 1.2 are band C, but Sport, Black, SE 105, Elegance 105 are band D (without Greentech) source PARKERS GUIDE website

No doesn't mention it in all the ads I've seen, but then again some dealers miss stuff off the descriptions.

All of them?

Ah, just re read your post, thought there was a reason

I've got the Greentech Citigo, NIL tax, one without £20 or £30 tax can't remember.

Toledo's are all Band B/C apart from the band E 1.2MPI and the 1.4DSG

We paid £9250 (ish) including mats & roof bars for a 2013 rapid 1.2tsi Elegance 5dr (not space back) with 14000 miles 5 months ago. Our thinking was that miles arent a concern as it should have run in produce better mpg (not better but you probably know what I mean). Being the elegance it has all the spec our old golf se had except auto lights and auto windscreen wipers (which I miss a little but not enough to moan about). When we set out to buy a car I was looking around £7500-8000 wanting a/c, cruise control, alloys and electric window... So we paid a little extra than first intended but we're saving over £700 in fuel, £100 in reflect, insurance had gone down and I don't have to worry about problems because it still has skoda warranty! Around the £7500-8000 I was looking at older cars like Audi A4/6 avants, Ford C-Max or S-max, bmw 530d and mazda 5. The rapid won me over with its economy, spec and power from 1.2 - it's no where near the 200bhp I was looking for but its not bad :)
