Kent Police...

... have just bought a fleet of about 20 vRS Estates! Aparrently it was the unanimous choice of the patrol cops, as well as being the best in SO many other ways ;) .

What do you think of that, then?

Also, I have around

Coilpacks - yes a bit vulnerable but cheap to replace.

Thanks Nick, I'd managed to misunderstand the FAQ - now I've re-read it. I take it that coilpacks are not a DIY job?

Wait for our techy experts to come along for a definite answer, but when I bought my year old Octavia 4x4 I sourced the coilpacks myself (dealers had no stock) and watched the mechanics change them. Three out of four were very easy, one required some wire disconnecting. With instructions (from on here) it would be a very simple job to swap all four.

I don't see why not - just a couple of Torx screws and a plug-in electrical connection .... I'm sure others on here have changed their own. Jon?

nic are you sure none of the 1.8T have variable valve timing? im pretty sure the cam profile changes low down ?

Fairly sure .... others will know more. Mattijs?

my vRS had 14k miles on it and i got it for

Changing a coil pack takes about 10 minutes tops. The official line is don't do it yourself, but you lot aren't silly so I won't preach.

Also if 1 fails, they'll fit a new one under warranty. If a second one goes, you are within your rights to ask them to change the lot. We'll agree it under warranty, and there are plenty about now after the debacle earlier this year, so there's a little peace of mind there.

The 1.8T engine is available in non-VVT and VVT -- dependant on model year -- If I remember correctly VVT came into play on the vRS for Model year 2001 - so from August 2000.

The VVT is a form of variable valve timing -- and there is a valve that controls it -- the adjustment is done via on oil fed tensioner(the cams are joined by a chain, which when pressure applied is shortened - therefore adjusting cam posistion and timing) although it's not as complex a system as fitted to some other cars(BMW for instance) Click here for photo to help explain

I've got a one year old vRS coil packs just went , the local dealer swopped them all under warrenty no problems.

Really enjoying the car why hasn't everyone got one?

That's mostly down to me.

In an attempt to make the RS more unusual and exclusive I have undertaken a program of mass suggestion.

Most of these suggestions are broadcast with the help of my accomplice Trevor MacDonald.

When he says "Tonight, on the news at ten" there is a subliminal message "go out and buy a BMW 318Ci".

Come on, you secretly knew that was the only reason anyone would every buy one didn't you?

:D

Welcome to Briskoda! :D Glad to hear you got the coil packs sorted out in one go. Any idea which version the replacements are?

Just saw a vRS police car in Leicester - very nice it looked too.

Just joined the forum today - vRS is currently top of my list to replace my company car next May :D

Welcome to Briskoda, kprm77! :D As Julia Roberts said in Erin Brockovitch, "You may want to rethink that car." Just joking - sort of. There are other fine Skoda models other than the vRS, although new members might be forgiven for not realising that. wink.gif

I would also consider a Superb - main sticking point is the boot. Looks the same as my current Passat - good size, but can't get big stuff in it! Amazing that I could get a PD130 or 1.8T Superb for less than my current Passat! (2.0 SE)

If I was buying private, I'd definately consider the 1.8T 4x4 and get it chipped. As it'll be a company car, chipping would be a no go, so more likely to me the vRS :D May even go for the estate - not sure. Depends on lease rates. Going off the "What Car" sample lease rates, I could afford all of the above, but suppose it depends how good our lease companies are with Skodas.

Thanks for the welcome :D

Who's going to be first to spot a police Skoda with a 'Briskoda' sticker on the window then?
