Ever had a car you regret getting rid of?

Featured Replies

I bought a VW Golf mk4 GTI Turbo almost new in 2001, bet you can't guess where my username came from?  I had it for almost six years in total, by far the longest I have ever kept a car and it was modified slowly over the years - wheels, brakes, suspension, exhaust, strut braces, remap, interior mods, etc.

I got married in 2005 and had a child in 2006 and as a result the Golf had to go.  I can't say I regret getting rid really because it was the situation but I do miss this car and have always thought about getting it back and turning it into a trackcar.

Anyway back to the point of the post, I was messing around on Autotrader and type the old reg into the 'create an ad' section and to my horror it came up with the fact that it has been classed as a CAT A write off.  Now I hope the driver is alright but I'm sad that the best car I ever owned (to date) is permanently gone.

My white mk2 golf gti 8v. I should of just put the money into sorting it rather than buying my v5 golf.

My Octavia VRS

My mk1 Octavia Elegance with its 1.8 turbo petrol engine. Comfortable, practical and fast. Mileage these days means diseasel.....

Alfa Romeo MiTo Cloverleaf...  epic car, but the usual Alfa Romeo reliability story!

'89 Mk2 Golf GTI valver  :'(

Should've mothballed it until I could afford to look after it properly.  It's still around, seen in Tunbridge Wells not that long ago.

Goes off to look for a piccy....

Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6 Loved that sound, been on the lookout for another ever since!

A black 106 xsi of all things, loved that car but was 10 years old and I was worried about reliability.   The replacement xsara vts cost me a fortune (at 21) to buy and insure.

Ollie my '56 mk2 vrs. Worst thing i ever did trading him in for this b****rd vx insignia!!!

1992 Polo 1.0 Cl Coupe tornado red. Sold it for the price I paid for it after 2 years (many years ago). I got a (can I say it) Fiat Punto on a X plate "lemon" bad move. Now back to my forth VAG car now fells much better.

86 Audi coupe GTE - sold for a pittance because it only had 2 doors and no hatch.

Most of them. I get bored or convince myself I need a change for some reason, then heavily regret it later.

If I could buy back my Mini Cooper or Hyundai Coupe i'd be a very happy chap. The Mini is on a SORN at last check and if I ever tracked it down money would be no object to buy it back. '91 Cooper Single carb in BRG - I spent a lot on it. Spotlights, arches, wheels, chrome chrome chrome, bucket seats, dashboard etc etc etc and I have so many memories in there - plus it was hands down the most fun I've ever had in a car. The Coupe sadly went to the great scrapper in the sky, found it on the bay of E for parts a couple of years after I got rid - was immaculate, looked sorely abused by the time it was on there and whoever was selling did a good attempt to kill the engine. Real shame as it was a fantastic example of a very under-rated vehicle.

They're my two standouts, I've had plenty of cars I really loved and would be happy to buy another of the same again as a second car (mostly Alfa Romeos, which for me were nothing but reliable!), but those two exact cars I have the biggest attachment to and really miss.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of J125 FGT please do let me know :)

My 04 plate Fabia VRS, owned from new,run for nearly 4 years,no issues other than normal servicing. Changed it for a 2.0Tdi A3 sport which was in some ways a better car but nowhere near as much fun.

Vx220 Turbo, ex demo black on black, got seduced by V8s!

No.

2006 Ford Focus ST-2, I still miss it to this day

Only two I miss are either my UK spec manual 300zx 3.0 v6 twin turbo which was running 400bhp+ (scrapped - long story) or my Lexus IS200 which had been supercharged (put back to standard and sold for a Jag - big mistake).

Mine has be 309 GTI 5 door dropped a MI-16 engine in it. It was like S*** off a shovel.

1275 mini cooper S.

Austin healey 100-6.

BMW 1502.

Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9.

BMW E30 325 SE 2 door.

BMW E39 528.

Some fond memories there....Sigh ;)

My Volvo 850

Got it off Cambridgeshire police force who had fiddled with it pretty significantly by way of a "specialist" dealer for £995 in Reading.

Took the train down to get it on a chance.

The 5 cylinder 2.3 turbo engine is a peach although the handling and fuel economy left something to be desired.

Lots over the years but if I have to pick then either my old 1974 3.5 V8 Manual with o/d 3 door Range Rover.

Also my rare Flat front mk11 Ford Escort RS2000.

1973 Mk1 white Escort 1300 Sport (I owned it in 1981/2).

It's the only car that I really regret selling. All the others were shifted usually to move on to a new car that was better/faster/more expensive, etc., etc.
