Outlook/Google calendar sync?

Featured Replies

I wonder if anyone with a better grasp on technology might be able to help me (in words I may understand!)?

At work we use 2007 Outlook 2007 for email & calendar, but for security reasons it can't/won't be synced with any external calendars.   To get round this (for non-sensitive appointments), I send the calendar item to myself (at my Gmail address) as a meeting request.  This used to arrive at my Android 'phone as an email with an attachment that I could download and would insert itself into my Gmail calendar.   However, for the last month or so, the email has arrived without the attachment, so I haven't been able to put it straight in.   Can anyone help?  Has a setting changed somewhere that I can sort out, or is it likely to be hidden somewhere in the work firewall that I can't modify?

Thanks,

Sam

May have been disabled by your system administration at server level so not much you can do.

I had a feeling that may be the case - thanks anyway.

Yeah I bet this is stopped using either Group Policies or a disable all but listed proxy.

Nothing you can do as Gadget Man advised :/

If it won't sync for security reasons I'd suggest you don't try too hard to get round it.

That sort of thing can end with your boss getting a call from someone like me and that rarely ends in smiles.

Outlook/Exchange and Google don't talk very well anyway

If you've a business requirement to get your calendar out and about with you then the business should be providing you with a solution that works for everyone.

You're unlikely to be the only one with the problem. If you work for a private business then you will probably have more options available to you than a Gov dept.

IT are there to provide solutions (whether they like it or not) but they'll only do it if they get asked.

Those people who try get around security I put in place at work I like :D makes a change rather than people coming to me with problems.

Got one at the minute who thinks he is Mojo the hacker & keeps telling me he will get around my software restriction policy - Still yet to see him do it.

I know the type, if he was really a problem he wouldn't be telling you first.

However by being a gob****e he'd have nominated himself for additional monitoring here so his internet habits would be scrutinised more closely.

Have you tried a 3rd party plugin for Google?
I have the same issues at work as well. Google Calendar Sync service has stopped completely (also not sure if they DID allow it or not)

We are using EVO Collaborator for Outlook, a small little plugin that allows a two way sync from Gmail to Outlook.
(also iCloud if you have some Apple products)

Might be worth a look,
Here is a little tutorial on the gmail / outlook sync :
