Octavia 2 aftermarket HU install - now hit a roadblock (no audio) - need help!

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

So, I finally decided to replace the Audience Head unit in my 2006 Octavia II. It has the 12 speaker sound system with the amp under the passenger seat. I got a lot of info on briskoda forums from owners who had done the upgrade from the stock HU. I ordered a Chinese touchscreen HU (an RNS-510 lookalike). It was clear that I had to replace my CAN-Gateway (to avoid battery drain, related thread), the radio fascia (to the RNS-510 type) and my parktronic module (to get the OPS display, related thread)

I ordered the HU and the modules. Got the headunit a few days back, immediately plugged it i and.....there was no sound. I immediately recalled hell666's thread (here) and read the entire thread. The stock amplifier can only work with the stock HU. This was a huge blow. The seller of the unit told me it would be compatible with the factory sound system. So, I guess using the stock amp with the new unit is out of the equation now. That was really disappointing as I loved the sound from the stock amp+speaker setup.

I've given it a lot of thought. Do bear with me as I don't have the slightest clue about car audio setups. I was hoping the aftermarket HU would be a plug and play job, now it's turning out to be anything but.

I have to connect the speakers directly to the new HU. From the new unit's documentation, it is mentioned that it has an inbuilt '4x45' amplifier. The quality remains to be seen. The problem is that to wire the speakers directly would mean splicing the wires from the stock speaker connector. I would like to avoid this as reverting back to stock would prove difficult.

Here is a picture of the connectors in the stock amp.

I figured if I can get a spare connector like this, it would make the job a whole lot easier and would not require splicing of the wires. I looked around and found this thread - the gist of it is that the thread creator found a scrap VW amplifier and salvaged it's connector to connect the speakers to his aftermarket amplifier. So now I am hunting for this connector. Any pointers on where to source one will be a huge help!

Another question I have is now that the stock amp is rendered unusable, can I add an aftermarket amplifier to my car? I just want the music to sound like it was on the stock amp. Any suggestions on what type of amp is best suited to the stock speakers of the Octy 2 will be a great help to me as, like I wrote above, I don't know much about car audio

Saw in this post that someone had come up with a device that manually powers on the stock amplifier, so that it can be used with an aftermarket HU. Could not find more details on it. Does such a device exist? If it does, where can I find one?

Cheers!

Hi,

I manage to get sound through stock AMP using after market HU :) PM me for details

Easier and neater to chuck in a Columbus or Amundsen I think, having done it.
