1.4 TSI - DSG fuel consumption

Featured Replies

Driving with cruise control @ 90KM/H for about 90% of the distance covered

if driven this way all the time a full tank of petrol could cover 1000KM of distance :):D

i think this is great :)

thanks for the tip man,

i just uploaded it to image shack :)

I'm disappointed. I thought you had actually done a 1000km on a tank.

Lots of reports of near 900 km but not seen one claiming cracking the 1k in a petrol Octavia 3.

I agree it should be possible though.

As you can see i already did 220KM since refuel and the fuel left can reach 810KM if driven the same behavior so i also think 1000KM can be achieved with this engine/gearbox :)

Driving at 90kph, no ac, minimal hills (or downhill) or drafting a truck would prob squeeze 1000ks from a tank. But I'd sooner drive normally for 800.... Maybe someone will do a bafflectomy on the mk3 tank and get 5l more capacity - would get 1000k easy then!

An all-new Peugeot 308 powered by a new three-cylinder petrol engine has travelled more than 1810km on 51.4 litres of fuel to claim a new production car fuel economy record.

Taking the title of 2014 European Car of the Year earlier this month, the record-setting Peugeot 308 was driven for 32 hours over a distance of 1810.03km by a newly introduced 96kW turbocharged 1.2-litre PureTech three-cylinder e-THP petrol engine.

With an official fuel economy record of 2.85 litres per 100km (99.1mpg), the six-speed manual-equipped 308 achieved the feat at the Almeria circuit in Spain on a full tank of fuel.

That was averaging near 57 kph so I reckon under similar conditions I would comfortably get about 3.5 l/100 out of mine but I like to think I have a life, not much of one but still better than all this entails.

Having said that if they re-instated the Darwin to Adelaide economy run for cars then that would be interesting.

Last one was won by a 6.2litre V8 Holden based ute bettering its official 14l/100 with something like 7.2 l/100 with required average speed of 95kph (I think).

Upset a lot of others who got far better economy but did not better official claims by as much.

To be honest with you it is very difficult to drive like that all the time esp. with such an engine :)

the engine just begs to be pushed hard :) :)

I can resist anything except...temptation.
