Approaching black trim

Gents - how much c4 would I need for the arches and sills on a mk8 civic - 15ml or 30ml? I have now got mine off my father in law and it is in good nick but the arches and sills are faded. Also any recommendations for interior fabric cleaning

I would say that 15ml will just do it, as it must be applied very sparingly

I used to own a Mk8 Type S GT so know exactly which trim you mean...The later ones were painted body colour like the FN2 Type R

You really dont want to buy 30ml and have a lot left unless you want it for other jobs

Cheers Chris your right I don't want more than I need but then don't want too little either as I don't want to leave it half done... What would be the best bet for ppplying it to the front nnd rear grilles - a brush maybe to get in the crevices?

Used diesel Oil :notme:

Yes a brush, but does the Grill really need it?

I would probably use a less permanent product on the grills

It will be far easier...you will only need to do it every so often

Cheers Chris. The front and rear lower grills are faded but not as much as the sills and arches so figured I'd do them all in one hit. Maybe I'll try it with 15ml and if I need more so be it. I can leave the grills to last and also have some autoglym bumper and rubber care I could try if needed...

My 15ml has arrived (along with the Gtechniq Perfect Glass kit - but that's another story).

All I need now is a dry day to clean all the trim (there's quite a bit on a Yeti) and seal with the C4.

Hey Karl, don't think you will be dissapointed but make sure you are really fastidious with the prep of the trim, it will pay huge dividends in how long the coating lasts and will be worth it when a few months down the line the trim looks the same as the day you did it.

He should've just come the extra 20 miles for some free but used Diesel Oil ;)

A great many people I respect have all said that dealing with black trim is an exercise in chasing your tail, the SiO2 coatings help to some extent, but you do just need to accept the first point and deal with it. :)

With all of the road crud I can black my trim then clean it once a week and in 3 weeks it will be grey again so I use something that's free rather than having to keep spending stupid money on what is essentially a workhorse.

I've been reading up on this stuff, so just bought a huge bucket of it.  Should come in useful for sure soon.  :)

From what I can gather it's a great trim restoring gunk without many of the pitfalls like greasiness etc associated with other similar items.

Have you tried the Solution finish stuff yet Jason? Jusy noticed it is a lot aaper than the c4
