Im NEW! Just introducing myself... And i have a issue...

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

i purchased a 2002 skoda superb auto 2.5tdi v6 in august.

its been absolutely brilliant since.... BUT:

recently it developed a fault that when i select reverse it waits a couple seconds and than thumps in and goes into limp mode PRND lit up constantly.

turning on and off the engine sorts this out until next time.

this started off very rarely and now it has progressed to every time but only when the engine is cold.

i am sure that this is an electronic fault for 2 reasons:

1: it has never slipped on me

2: if i move it into reverse with engine off (key on 3) it does the same thing.

i tried reading codes with a bluetooth generic thingy off eBay and nothing came up.

i have spent hours googling but most people seem to have an issue where the prnds is flashing, on mine its a steay orange until engine restart.

what should my next step be?

car has 170000 miles on and is in excellent condition otherwise.  (besides rear park assist error which garage diagnosed as 3 faulty sensors?)

looking forward for your help!

Welcome to the forum, you need to scan the the car with something like vcds to find the fault

Where do I find such a garage? I'm in the North East close to Newcastle.

Any VAG specialist should be able to do it.

Ok I had the car scanned and garage gave me a slip saying p0706 transmission range sensor f125 implausible signal 17090

What should my next step be?

i would start be replacing your f125 sensor and clearing the fault codes. the implausible signal usually points to a duff sensor.

Hello and welcome to the forums. GL with fixing the issue!

Ok,

i have decided to replace the sensor.

am i able to get a used part? my mechanic says the part from tps or something is £200?

I've done second hand bits and complete boxes second hand before and have only ended up in a world of pain and bother.

In my opinion I wouldn't dream of trying a used part.  False economy and you might end up with something that's only half a mile away from where you are now.  Not worth the risk, again, in my opinion.

This is for an A8, but I think it's still relevant, if you're handy with a spanner:

And if it's any consolation, before the Superb, I had a Saab Aero.  Spent c.£1100 on the valve body, then clipped a kerb in a blizzard and wrote it off.

Hope you get if fixed okay.
