6 wks old - broken down. Not chuffed.

That is totally unacceptable the mileage they covered, i would not be happy either, seems skodas have a lot of silly faults seems like cheap crap parts and over priced to boot.

The amount of cars they build seem to get worse, i had a mk1 4 yrs trouble free till written off, bought the mk2 what a big let down next car will not be a vw group car of any sort.

Mine is the opposite.....i was very unimpressed with my mk1 vrs & was glad to trade it in for my mk2 vrs which in my opinion is the car the mk1 should have been,my mk2 vrs has been & is proving to be a very good reliable car,one warranty issue in 6 years & 60k. Its the only car ive kept for so long,i do agree that skodas are becoming very expensive now. a mk3 vrs with a few options is a scary price new.

  • But if you'd got it back and it wasn't right you'd be complaining about not enough diagnostics! Remember the Titanic was brand new! Bit of a reality check needed! What do you want out of this?

  • and maybe check for damage to the sump guard, see if its been airborne...

I agree, and would think that 50 miles would be ample.

But they covered 220 miles. I think thats excessive.

Did they give you any indication that it would be that kind of mileage they would be putting on it?

Not really. They did say that the car was going on extended test drives while being taken home by the dealer principal. I never considered that they would cover that distance.

I really hope Skoda call me.

I have a mate that bought a Mondy 6 months ago. It's been in the garage so many times trying to sort a limp mode fault the dealer has now changed it, so personally I'd rather they keep it until they know for sure they've fixed the problem. Out of interest how many miles have you put on the courtesy car?

In the last 14.5 years I've done 20,000 miles in a Mk 1 SLX, nearly 72,000 in a Mk1 vRS, nearly 83,000 in a Mk2 vRS and a few thousand in my current car, a Mk3 vRS. On the Mk1vRS I had 2 coil packs replaced, one under warranty, and had to get a front suspension spring replaced after about five years. On the Mk2 I had one occasion where it wouldn't start (turned out the battery was flat but RAC came out under the assistance package and found out the problem and rectifed it, as it never happened again), and I had a door card replaced because the coating had started to wrinkle.

The law of averages says that there will be a small number of cars that develop a fault early in their life; manufacturing procedures and protocols can reduce that number, but realistically there are always going to be a few unfortunate cars no matter what the make. I know that it's no comfort when it's your car that's the duff one, but a single broken car is not meaningful data upon which to judge a manufacturer, it's an anecdote.

Sure, but what counts is how the manufacturer and their representatives handle it. In this case, no Skoda assist or AA was sent and a replacement car needed to be requested. Then they didn't explain the process for correcting the fault (ie that it'd add 250 miles), how long it would take or even replenish the fuel without being pestered. Yes, cars break down, communication and good service really shouldn't.

If you are on PCP you could take the stance that those miles actually have a cost to them at the same rate as the excess mileage charge.

I agree. The list price for my car which has some pricey options was more than £27k. Stupid really.

I put around 180 miles on it, but 100 of those were driving to the dealer to collect my car.

I agree. In actual fact by the time I'd driven the car home it'd covered 330 miles more than it had when it broke down.

The customer service point is interesting though. I always laugh when I read a JD Power or the like survey results. You could have a good guess at what the results are without conducting any survey.

I own the car so no finance or PCP. Good point though.

Can't argue with that. And whilst I would have been accepting (if not happy) of up to 100 miles for them to test it, I wouldn't have been chuffed at the amount of extra mileage they've done either.

Hi,

Don't lose faith, we drive Mkii Scout Paramedic response cars, they run 24 hours a day, are loaded with extra kit and are driven by loonies(yes me included). In the last four years I have never had one problem. For this reason alone I am chopping in my beloved S60 D5 for a VRS combi DSG ...once it gets off the bloody boat that is!

220 miles is defo an extended test drive..... keep the faith!
