Puddle Lights, when should they turn on?

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Noticed last night my factory puddle lights only seem to work when the door is open and mirrors unfolded?  What would be considered normal behaviour for them, can they be re-coded?

Thanks

Dave

Mine turn on as soon as I unlock the car and stay on until I turn the key. Same as the interior light.

Hmmm, that's the behaviour I would have expected.  Has your got light sensor / auto lights switch fitted?

It has a light sensor but not auto lights

They should only come on when it's dark if you have the light sensor.

They will then either come on when you unlock the car or when you open a door. They then switch off after so long (about 30 seconds ish) or when you turn the ignition on.

+1 It's exactly the same on my car.

Thanks for the replys guys,

I've been out and about this evening and been keeping an eye on the puddle lights and coming / leaving home lights. To be honest they seem a bit intermittant, sometimes they work sometimes they don't, sometimes 1 works but the other doesn't. Any ideas what the issue may be, vcds doesn't show any errors...?

Thanks

Dave

As you have a facelift they work differently to the pre facelift

If the mirrors are folded in the lights won't work until you open the drivers door

if the mirrors are left out they will come on when the car is unlocked

Thanks for all the replies guys, after a few days (& nights) of carefully watching the puddle lights and CH/LH lights I think they are working just fine.  It does all depend on where switches have been left and where mirrors have been left...!!

Thanks
