Strange bluetooth issue all of a sudden

Featured Replies

Over the last 2 days my Galaxy S3 has lost bluetooth connection 5 times... any idea why :)

Since owning the car it has been perfect, just drops and reconnects for no reason, phone in same place in the car, by the gear lever..

Been driving in low signal areas?  The likelihood is that you are connected to an S3 in premium mode (i.e. rSAP) which takes over the SIM and hence relies on it receiving a signal...

Mmm, I do know that we have a signal issue in the village little or no signal at the minute, Vodafone have issues, normally full signal, but not sure if the signal issue was were I have been driving when it has lost the connection.... Been OK up until yesterday..

You can test it by switching to handsfree mode in the maxidot next time it happens.  It shouldn't report a break in connection in HFP mode as the car does not take over the SIM in that mode so it should then stop reporting anything if it is a signal related thing.

Will give it a try, very strange, 17 weeks with no issues then 5 in 2 days Lol

You don't always see it to be honest so you are probably just noticing it more now you have spotted it once!!

I think it is a new thing, my handset "chimes" when it connects which is why I have noticed..

Yes mine vibrates in my pocket on handing over connection of the SIM to the car so that your "chime" is probably the equivalent (mine is usually on silent due to work).  I would just keep an eye out for now.

Have an iPhone connected to mine. Three times in the last three months or so, lost connection to the phone. Came up as phone not found. Stopped the car, turned off ignition started the car again and got full connection. Not happened often enough to take it in as replicating the problem is abviously difficult given the number of times it has happened!

I also get the drop in connection with my iPhone 5 but not that often.  The more frequent issue that I experience is the car not recognising the phone at times - usually after third of fourth attempt it finally connects

About 3 months ago, my Galaxy S4 started to lose the Bluetooth connection to the car. The car would then automatically re-make the connection. The situation has now got worse and the connection doesn't even get made and the phone connection on the car freezes. I have tried an iPhone and that had the same issue.

Took the car to the garage today and they did a system reset. It worked for 5 minutes and then started loosing the connection. It froze again but I managed to reset the phone. I am booked in to the garage again in 2 weeks (my delay). They will keep the car for 2 days for investigation. I'll let you know......

I still have not got to the bottom why my Samsun Galaxy S3 disconnects/reconnects for no reason...

For 4 days this week over Christmas it worked perfect, no disconnects/reconnects... yesterday disconnected/reconnected once as usual :( ..

Checking this morning, when connected to the car the following options are checked from the bluetooth menu of the phone..

post-428-0-83574500-1420280301_thumb.png

"Media audio"

"Access SIM card" - As it is connected via Bluetooth Premium/rSap I expected this to be ticked ..

The Phone audio is unchecked and will not allow me to tick the box... but the phone works OK for calls in and out ..... maybe because it connects using rSap?

I have now unchecked the "media audio" setting to see if makes any difference to the disconnects, as I do not use music streaming anyway

Anyone had issues with having media audio ticked? I am sure I have read that having the "media audio" checked can cause issues...

Will see how it goes today  all I have ticked now is "Access SIM card"  :)

I did try the phone after un-checking and it still makes calls OK :)

Have you tried doing a Google search for "samsung galaxy s3 bluetooth problem". Quite a few threads appear although I haven't explored any of them in depth. Might be worth a look, some of them mention car problems, and someone mentions theirs connected reliably to their Subaru until a Samsung software upgrade made it unreliable.

Will have a search.. Just been out, did 40-50 miles with no issues at all.. I will not "build my hopes" up as it was ok for 4 days last week... Lol See what tomorrow brings.. strange thing it was OK until about 5 weeks ago, no issues at all.. I would have thought if it was a car issue it would be more regular..

I did try a phone from work, a Galaxy Note and that did the same, but looking at the menu on MaxiDot it was also connected as a media device...

I am sure I did read that having media on did cause issues although I can't find it now..
