My new Octy.

Featured Replies

Hey ho

To start i have to say i really like the forum and the members here. Got very useful information here before i got my brand new Octavia :) But to start got to go little bit back in time.  It was 2010 when i got my very first car. It was 1996 vw passat B5 1,8 92kw cherry red sedan version. With leather interior. Loved the car. Althoigh it had really stupid front axel build (With 8 fishbones). Car was very nice. Got into my first (and so far last) accident. Suicidal bambi a.k.a a deer :) Run infront of the car. Deer was obliterated since the accident happened at highway speed. Since it was a small deer it didn't do much damage. Had to replace the left side blinker and main light. Otherwise car itself was okei. Did about 40000 kilometers in 2 years with it.

In 2012 at the end of Very cold January, after selling my B5 i got my hands on next generation B6 2005 vw passat. 2.0 110kw petrol sedan in pearl black color. It also had leather interior (with alcantra). When i got the car it was fairly well maintained and was running good, till one week after i bought it. 5 oclock in the morning when i was ready to go to work, want to start up the car and get going the MFD (Same as Maxidot) showed error message  "Steering lock column defective". Since i already know about that problem with early B6 passats had that problem. Did alittle bit of research online and was stunned by the results. Owners who had same kind of problem did fix it in the dealership and got a hefty repair bill (around 1k pluss pounds) Since the whole steering column with all the modules in them needed to be replaced. Got very worried about it. Dig allittle bit deeper and find out that vw worked out a solution and now it was possible to change only the lock itself rather then the whole system. Took it to my dealer. 140 euros later car was fixed. And it was only possible to fix with OEM part(s) since there wasnt any 3-rd party parts available at that time. Really loved the car. Was nice to drive and nice place to be in. Find one couple of pictures

The day i got it

Was amazed with all the possibilitys what you can do with VCDS. Programmed the fog lights as DLR-s and main bean to be turned on when it was getting dark. Did a skyline mod to my tail lights (Donuts). Changed the normal numberplate  halogen bulbs to OEM led ones. Switched all interior lights to led ones. Bought a bootlip for the boot (not a huge one) Changed the OEM tail lights to OEM hella Cherry red  ones(R36 oem ones) But lately i did notice that the handbrake motors (Yes it had electric handbrake) doing crazy noise when applying an handbrake. I went to see my dealer to get their opinion about the noise. When the car was in i was looking around at the shop floor to see what they had to offer. They had almost all VW models out, then i went to next showroom where they have all Skoda models (Local dealer sells both VW and Skodas). And there i saw it. New Octavia. Yeah ive seen it before on the street, but never get up close and sit in the car myself. To be honest was very lovely place to be in.  Looked at the superb aswell. Not bad aswell. Then the bad news for my passat came. The handbrake motors have the plastic casing and both motor casings were cracking badly, becose the motor itself is metal and it will rust due to moisture and dirt getting in them. I was quoted 630 euros plus labor for changeing two motors. Was stunned. Went home to see if theres a cheaper way to change them. It wasnt. Since i was thinking about changeing the car for a while now i called the dealer and booked a test drive with new Superb, since i thought that Superb and passat would be equal on size wise. Got to test drive 1.8 118kw 7 speed DSG one in White color (Really like the white color on Skodas) Was really good and liked the superb much. Basicly the desicion was made. Im gonna get a superb. But the sales man said, give a try to Octavia aswell. He recommend me 1.4 engine. Said its pretty good at town and at highway. I wasn't conviced about Octavia, since its bit smaller then Superb is. Couple of days later got a call from the same salesman and he said Hey we got a new scout here to test drive and would i like to give it a shot. Got the car for myself for about 4 hours to play around with. And lets face it. I LOVED IT.  After test drive i asked sales man to make me an offer for Octavia. (I never test drive Octavia. Only did test drive Scout, but basicly its Octavia on steroids). Went home that day and did some research about Octavia. Spent hours in this forum reading about it. Was bit concerned about that loud boom sound while driving the octavia, but i decide to give it a try. Next day went back to dealer and Said:

And they did along with my old Passat. They did check my old car and give me a prize what they pay for it. Was good enough for me. Since i didn't want to wait,i choose to pick the car which was already in stock and available. Dealer had plenty of the currently at stock (Including 8 VRS versions) I went for 1.4 103kw Elegance plus HB version. After that it was just 4 days of wait (Car had to be delivered from another dealer and prepeared and MOTed and get liscense plates) when i got the call from the dealer that my baby is ready to collect. Since it was my very firt brand new car, i was really excited. Did the paper work and off i went. Immidiately i noticed that the steering wheel is not center and is off to the left quite badly. Took a call to salesman to say that theres a small problem with steering wheel. He said that "It was normal and the car need  to be run in and it will sort itself out". I was like WTF. It doesnt make any sense. Asked nicely to book the car. Car went in this thursday. After little bit of waiting it was ready and the dealer said it was done wrong already at the factory and the alignment was off. To make things right they installed black Octavia door stills for free and didn't have pay for the parts aswell.  Now the car is bit more then 1 week old and have covered already 700 kilometeres. So far love every bit of it. Heres couple of pictures :)

My fears about the "Loud boom" were gone when i got the car. Don't have any weird noise to complain about at all (Knocks the wood). One thing what i don't get is the automatic headlights. I set them Late on Bolero and the switch is at auto position and the sensor seems to be working weird way. It does work, but it turns on the main beam way early, or is it just me and i should get use to new car.

Some things on my To do list:

1)Front fog lights as cornering lights (as i know they are as standard on Elegance versions, but since i have Elegance Plus which have "Tinted" or "Smoked" foglights the cornering lights are turned off)

2) LED number plate lights (Any suggestions ?)

3) Dipping mirror when reversing
4) Tear drop activation on the wipers

I quess most of you who read my post will ask "What is Elegance plus". Well its normal Elegance with couple of extras like:

Alarm, KESSY, LED tail lights, Rear parking sensors, Hands free, CD radio Bolero (Elegance comes as standard with radio Swing)

God its a long post. Sorry for that. If any Questions. Please do not hesitate and ask :)
