which service?

Featured Replies

SWMBO's Citigo has about 4.5k miles on a 62 plate so just turning 2years old.

Which fixed price service should it get?

On Skoda it has 10k miles-12 month for £139.00 and 20k miles - 24months.

Due to very low mileage should I just do the £139?

My dealer quoted £199.00 as it needs a pollen filter (which under the 10k service would be replaced if required)this price is neither of the Skoda advertised prices so now a tad confused.

Despite low mileage, my understanding is minor service comes when first year has passed OR 10,000 miles has passed. The low milage probably means little will need done, but I'm sure they'll say because of the age it will need the full service. But I am not 100% certain.

Ye my wife's is having 2 yr/20k mile service next Saturday, hers has done 8k miles, but that's the one because of mileage! Next year is brake fluid change as well.

You can get a quality pollen filtre from most motor factors, buy one fit it your self. In the service book you put the Tick in the box to say it's been done.

I also change my own Air Filtre

Re: service prices...they are not fixed in stone, but negotiable! When I was quoted £129 for the first service, I mentioned some of the lower prices people on here were paying....and the reply "Oh, how about £90, is that OK?" As easy as that...and that's what I was charged...and got a courtesy Fabia, and was told not to worry about paying for fuel! How's that for service?

1st service £99 basically an oil change and inspection.

2nd service £184 air/pollen oil change and inspection.

They definitely don't do much more than described on the first service, the second a little bit more although I can't see whether they even took the wheels off for a brake check etc They did a valet before returning the car to me, it came back dirtier than it went in. Services are at 10k/12 months and 20k/24 months whichever comes 1st.

I would do a somewhat visual inspection before a service anyway, save costs (if it ain't broke it won't need sorting) for example, I will be replacing my air filter about a week before my next service next year as I know it'll need replacing by then

You're often cheaper going to a garage rather than a Dealer's service department. This isn't a worry that I had simply because I have the three years free servicing. But nonetheless, I'd possibly get quotes from elsewhere. :-)

I know about prices Varying, as the first service was quoted at £129.00 when it was booked but on the day they only charged £79.00.

So basically the 24 month service is the one which it should get and my dealer is offering at £199.00

Let's hope they do similar to the first service and go lower on the actual day :)

Cheers

They should check and clean rear drum brakes as well. It's a part of scheduled maintenance, and should be done every 24 months.

Skoda's pollen filters are reasonably priced at the dealer, but labour to change it is not. Citigo's pollen filter couldn't be easier to replace.

Edit: 2 years / 30 000km service is called "Inspection Service". It seems to be quite a lot more than just oil change. (I have Skoda's workshop manual from year 2013) If they really do all what they should do, £199 is fair price as I see it.

Turn up for the books

Went to collect SWMBO's car from second service told no charge...apparently it has a service plan on it..great!

So having paid for the first service last year, they now admit It should not have been charged to me at all.

We bought the car at 6 months old with 400 miles on the clock, we were not told the first owner had taken the 3 years service plan or that it was automatically transfered to us at the time of purchase (same dealership for both sales).

Few extra quid towards my new gortex pro jacket ;).

Also noticed lots of citigo's second hand up for sale on the forecourt, did like the bright red sport on a 13 plate, just wish they were not so gutless, compared to my vrs.

Did they offer a refund on the 1st service?

I'm sorting that one out today, cheeky beggers ;)

My vrs is in for its 30k service so £79 towards that one will do nicely.

2nd year service done today including pollen filter £159, I supplied the oil, not too bad!
