Octavia VRS Estate diesel or Scout 184ps? (+mpg question)

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am looking at getting an Octavia and am unsure which one to go for - either the VRS or Scout. I must admit I do like the VRS but tend to like the more conservative styling of the Scout. Has anyone driven the new Scout and compare the driving abilities of each one?

Another question I have (sorry about this) is MPG on both cars. I currently drive a Golf mk4 130ps TDI which is getting a bit long in the tooth but get about 60mpg when driving on clear motorway runs (for example Basingstoke to Brighton, did 62mpg there, 59mpg back yesterday). Would similar fuel consumption levels be expected from the VRS? I guess it has a more modern engine.

Thanks,

Barney

I'm getting up to 51 UK MPG with calm motorway driving and very conservative driving within city limits. That's with an RS Diesel.

If I floor it the whole way (apart from the warm-up period, when I let the oil calmly come to 90 degrees celcius before flooring it) it goes down to an average of 40 UK MPG.

Highway consumption can drop even lower when doing a steady 55 but that's not really realistic.

I've got a octy vRS TDI manual hatchback and on my day to day run to work I get 60 mpg out of my vRS on A roads doing 55/60 mph on the 19" wheel's the last month or so I've go 62mpg with the 18" winter wheel and tyre fitted and doing 55 mph but it all depends on condition and wether at the time.

I have to say the vRS will pick it's feet up when you need it to so if you want a sporty and good all round car go for the vRS and if you need a 4x4 go for the scout it up to you but your on to a winner kown mater what you get

vRS Diesel DSG and my long term average over the past 2.5k (according to the infotainment) is 47mpg.

That's a mix of fast A roads and MWays and a bit of round town pootling

I've only seen 60mpg a handful of times in 9k...

4x4, estate, DSG - those are the characteristics that have no alternatives and make your car the ultimate machine :)

So go for Scout or wait for vRS 4x4 speculation to come true :)

30 mile B road and 60 mile motorway daily commute and I get 50mpg in a diesel vRS estate

After 13000miles I am averaging 47mpg and on a leaflet motorway trip I can get around 53mpg. Maximum on an A road trip was 58 mpg. VRS diesel dab estate. But a big smile on my face knowing that if you squeeze your right peddle, then it goes like a train.

The scout will not do as many mpgs

Whilst its not impossible to get 60mpg with the 184PS engine, I think its probably difficult to achieve this consistently.

The average fuel economy on Fuelly.com (check the signitures here) is low 50s or high 40s. Add in the heavier Scout with 4x4 and its probably a little less.

If fuel economy is important, the 2.0L TDI will be more likely to achieve 60mpg whilst still giving plenty of pulling power & performance.

I've done less than 1000 miles in my vRS TDI estate so can't comment long term yet. I have however recently done two long drives (180 miles each way), easily achieved 60+ mpg.
