Parking sensors - nothing happening at all.

Parking sensors - is it possible to check the module?

Have previously resolved individual sensors using Briskoda's advice. This time I have nothing.

A month ago all was fine then the sound of the audible device changed. Much weaker and squeaky sound. System still worked though including the visual picture of the car in the dash.

Last week, lost everything. No beep, no picture.

Have placed car in gear with ignition on and there is no clicking from any sensor.

Today I pulled back the carpet to check the module bolted to the back of left rear wheel arch. There are stories of these corroding due to washer fluid leakage from above. Mine was bone dry.

So, experts out there, is there any way to test the module other than replacement? (Quoted £120 replacement from local dealer)

My local auto electrician is usually very good but I drive around 100 miles per day for work so am reluctant to take a day off work if there is something else that I can do.

Opinions welcome.

Does you reverse lights work as if the wire on the switch has snapped your reverse sensors won't work either

Reverse lights tip

Sorry, should have said in the original post that the reversing lights do come on.

Does the rear wash wipe work?

best way to check is to get a member with vcds do a scan for you as that should determine the specific problem

VCDS is the way forwards I feel.

Factory sensors don't use the reverse light to switch on, all done by CAN signal

First check to see if the fuse has blown for the module, get some one with vcds to scan.

Find an obliging scrappy who's got an Octavia and ask to try swapping the module, no fix-no fee sort of thing.

Update on my non-working parking sensors.

Got my friendly local garage to plug their diagnostic machine into my car.

Fault code came up - parking aid beeper.

This would match with my original description of weak and squeaky noise.

Part should arrive tomorrow.

Think that it fits behind the trim on the B pillar, can anyone confirm this?

It is at the foot of the B pillar or if in a newer car with front sensors too, there is a second beeper near the steering wheel. It will be a cheap result if its just that and I can confirm it definitely needs to be working for the system to fully function (ie it wont partly function).

Thanks for all advice.

Parking sensors did not work with no picture on the display.

Tested all sensors individually and none worked.

Garage diagnostic pointed to sensor sounder on the B pillar. Part number 8EO-919-279

This cost £20 through local garage and is on the lower section of the passenger B pillar.

Taking the 2 trim sections off the B pillar reveals the sounder.

I would recommend ordering the two rivets holding the sounder as it is difficult to remove them without damaging them. (Sounder can be taped or glued to pillar if absolutely necessary)

Care is needed to replace the top B pillar trim as it needs feeding into the seat belt height adjuster.

I didn't realise how useful parking sensors were until they didn't work.
