Do I have any chance of recompense here?

Featured Replies

I have a 13 plate Seat Toledo which I use as a taxi. So it has warranty of 2 years unlimited milage as opposed to the standard 3 years/60K. I have my car serviced every 10K usually by a Seat dealer but I have to travel into Wakefield for this as it's my nearest Seat dealership. On two occasions I've had the car serviced at DM Keith in Leeds which is a Skoda dealership and is just down the road from me. Being as the car is same as a Skoda Rapid I though there would be no issues with this.

However recently I've been having some issues with the glow plug light flashing on the dashboard and the car has now covered 60K. It just had it's 60K service about a week ago at the Seat dealership. Because this is under warranty I've taken it to the Seat dealership in Wakefield today. They've told me that the fault is showing up as low fuel pressure and that I need to have a new fuel filter fitted. They are going to charge me £80 for this as they say it should have been done at the 40K service but they didn't perform that service.

I know that DM Keith did that service so I dug out me receipt/invoice. They charged me £271 for that service so I rang them to check what work was carried out. I was told that because it was similar to an Octavia they did the 40K service as that. I told them it was in fact the same car as a Rapid... not an Octavia so she went away to double check. When she called me back she told me she'd checked with a Seat dealership in York and they confirmed that the car should have had the filter changed at 40K. But they didn't do it as they mis-serviced the car as a wrong model.

All she could do was apologise. But that to me isn't good enough! I don't pay £271 for a service to have the wrong one done. I even told them it was the same car as the Rapid  when I took it in... but they just did an Octavia service instead. wtf?! Do I have just cause for any recompense here?

Sorry mate, I think you're on a sticky wicket here. They strongly suggest using a Skoda dealer during warranty period just to avoid such mistakes. It's not as if they DIDN'T do the service.

A fuel filter is quite quick to change, under the car near the tank.

Had a fair bit of trouble with DM Keith Leeds myself

Still waiting for it to be sorted at the minute.

Im about £160 out of pocket thanks to their errors, and all I have got in return is £20 of diesel put in the tank the last time I was there.

Best of luck getting something out of them

Regards

I'd photocopy your reciept, gather the evidence from the Seat dealer and send DM Keith a letter demanding they cover the cost as it's their responsibility to ensure they follow the corre t service schedule-thats what you're paying them for. I'd also state in the letter that if they fail to pay within 28 days you're going to take them to the small claims court which would cost them more in time to attend than pay for the work they should have done themselves. Good luck.
