Coolant/heater Mystery

Featured Replies

Well what do you know after a couple of days the problem is back again with a vengeance, low coolant light back on & heater not working at all now. As you might guess I wasn't best pleased, so I took it to a local garage & told them of my woes & all he did was do a pressure test on the head & told me the gasket had blown. the cost of this was no charge. so I ask why didn't the dealership do this in the 1st place & save me £650 & I could have spent that on a new gasket. (any one know how much a new gasket will cost)

Looks like a call too the skoda dealership In the morning.

All the best Gerry.

I'm led to believe the heads on these engines cannot be skimmed, so if it's been cooked/warped it's a new head.

You won't worry about the cost of a gasket then!

Seems my problem is now two fold.... the exhaust test showed that the coolant has exhaust gases present and I tried to flush the matrix and it's blocked.

The coolant is being lost at ever increasing rates and there's now white smoke coming from the exhaust - defo a worsening head gasket or cracked block problem coupled with a blocked matrix.

I've thrown in the towel and booked it in with a local mechanic :)
