Felicia 1.6 Engine Tapping Noise

Featured Replies

Got a tapping noise from the engine, only when the accelerator is touched.

Put some fresh oil in last night, and it was much quieter for about 30 seconds afterwards and then back to normal.

Anyone know what it might be? :)

Let us hear what you hear. Use Youtube or similar.

Could be low oil pressure, often caused by the strainer in the oil pickup pipe in the sump being partially blocked by sludge.

I'll try and record the sound. Its like the sound of a stick in the spokes of a push bike!

Check the exhaust manifold for leaks/cracks which can make a raspy ticking sound. The oil thing may just be a coincidence.

Ok here is a video of the noise. I couldn't make a video of the car on the move.

When idling, the noise is always present.

When driving, it is only present whilst touching the accelerator, if I lift off but keep the car in gear, it comoletely goes.

You didn't tell what type of engine has your Felicia. I see your status says Mk1 Skoda Fabia...

Sorry, it's the 1.6mpi

Well, the exhaust sounds like a rally car. Do you have a sport muffler? If not, I agree with previous member, something is cracked, the manifold, a pipe, a gasket. But I would be concerned too about oil pressure flow at the top of the engine (rockers). Can you measure oil pressure with a manometer instead of mano-contact? Maybe oil pressure is low, maybe gunk is blocking oil passages and developed play in rocker shaft area. Use poorman's stethoscope (long screwdriver) to isolate the noise.

the exhaust doesn't sound like a rally car in real life, but in the videos it does.

Here is a clip I took this morning from behind the truck by the tailpipe.

The whining noise is the alternator bearing, I think.

Not sure if it's because it's cold outside or if there's an issue, but here's a little clip of the exhaust tail pipe smoke/vapour

Nothing wrong at tailpipe, just condensation, but it sounds like a boat engine.

Small advice: in real life our TVs , PC monitors  and laptops have landscape format screens (4:3 or 16:9). I don't understand why people still record videos holding the phone vertically...
