Citigo With No Drls

Twice this week, whilst taking son to school, I have seen the same Citigo pass me in other direction. First time I saw it I thought something looked wrong with it then realised the DRLs were not on. Can't imagine two blown bulbs so presume the owner has disabled them? Has anyone else disabled their lights?thoughts why you would? Surely it could effect insurance in accident if another driver claims to have not seen car?

All cars made after a certain date must have DRL's Fitted. It's not illegal not to use them but the option must be there to turn them on.

 

The Insurance will not be affected wether you have them on or off.

If "The other driver" claims he didn't see a car then I'd be taking the driving license off them and reporting them to the dvla if I were a police officer. That would be a pathetic excuse to get out of an accident

The bulbs do seem to blow quite often, and there's nothing on the dashboard to alert you. I had 2 blown bulbs replaced at my last service - I hadn't noticed.

I believe removing fuse 22 disables the DRL's

I'm pretty sure a request to the dealer when purchasing the car is enough to have DRLs disabled. I know quite a few Volvo drivers with Xenon headlights have been asking dealers to disable the DRLs or Scandanavian light function for years when ordering new cars.

That's correct when I had mine blow I replaced that fuse. The dealer said it was the bulbs but I proved them wrong again [emoji106][emoji16]

Insurance will do anything to get out of paying, so if the DRL's CAN be apportioned to the blame, they can assign blame. However - its highly unlikely until the day 100% of cars have DRL's.

You raise an important point. Insurance, if they can avoid paying out they will, so best to have the DRLS working.

I have been known to put illegal exhausts on motorbikes, and as far as the insurance is concerned, unless its the cause of the accident its fine, just not insured, and by this they mean tey won't pay for its replacement if damaged.

 

I suspect they will apply the same rules to DRL's - and the HD upgrades I know some of you have done.
