Blu Ray

Featured Replies

It looks to me that some of the producers of blu Ray discs are trying to stop people buying them by putting on more complicated copy security. Unfortunately this seems to putting a lot of older blu ray players in the position that the discs won't work. The manufacturers of the players are either unable to produce upgrades or willing to. This leaves a choice buy a new player or stop buying Blu-ray Discs. I've decided to stop buying Blu-ray Disc as is it becoming a lottery of what will work. I think I'll rent / buy from a streaming service ( if I can find a decent one that isn't buffering hell - why can't they all be as good as Netflix?) or just go old school and get the DVD.

Don't buy many Blu-rays but not had this problem even though we have a 5 year (or so) old Sony player. Maybe as the originator of blu-ray technology they future proofed their players?

I've also got a Sony player and have noticed that some of the firmware upgrades incorporate 'modifications' to prevent the playing of dubiously sourced files!

In saying that, they may also allow some of the newer discs to actually play.

Personally, I've got my player to not auto update - just in case.

Not had a problem with that but....

the thing with Blue-Ray that ****es me off no end are when the manufacturers use some feckin fancy Java based menu system.

Aye it looks very fancy but it CAN'T EVEN RESUME A STOPPED DISK AND THE DAMN THINGS CAN TAKE 5 MIN TO GET STARTED.

Bookmarks are more trouble than they are worth.

I'm sure BR are just there to push everyone into streaming rental services.
