Rear Caliper Question

Featured Replies

well today my car was booked in to have the handbrake looked at. Its not been working for the last couple of months and I've not had the chance to look at this myself due to work ect. My mechanic has told me that my rear passenger side caliper seized.  My question is are all the fabia rear calipers the same ? i thought they where but i could be wrong.

will this calpier in the link fit the vrs?

Do you know which part is seized? If it's the handbrake arm you may well find helper return springs may fix it! Far cheaper than a new caliper and take seconds to install

Already got the springs unfortunately :( got a recon caliper from a 9n polo for £37 so at that price I'll just change it. Will be stripping down the old one to see if I can fix it.

Ahh, fair enough, at that price though it's probably not worth the hassle.

Before I upgraded to my 256mm setup I had a seized caliper (reason I took the opportunity to upgrade). Turned out when I removed the piston that the main seal had seriously deformed which I guess caused the piston to stick

They can be fixed, main cause is inner rubber seal which acts as a cam to pull back the piston....................this goes hard with age & heat..........get a new kit or seals & dust skirts from dealers.................done all my calipers....just a right PITA trying to get the dust skirt back in..............figured a way which was easier, but still a PITA.

P.S re-hone the bores lightly & wet sand (like 1200 or 2000grit) the burnt on rubber off the piston & make all shiny & wipe down with meths afters.
