Cambelt change flyer from Skoda

Recommended Posts

I've just received a flyer from Motorline Skoda.

MOT £39.

Brake fluid change £49.

Cambelt change (Octy) £359 (+ £100 to include replacement water pump).

Is this a special or just Skodamail junk?

Well, this from TMWNA shows as it is a life time belt?

This link should be better!

That'll soon change once they start snapping. :D  Vauxhall tried going to 80,000 on the Vectra B x25xe engine when it came out. A bit strange considering when they introduced it in the Cavalier and Calibra it was 36,000/4years. Needless to say when reports of premature failure started cropping up they soon brought it back to 40,000. Some dealers obviously never got the memo though and the GSi I bought at 95,000 did actually go to 80,000/4years before getting done. From that link I see chain engines getting a mention. Vauxhall had their problems in this area too with the y/z22se. Oil jet was notorious for blocking and starving the chain of oil, they introduced a bigger nozzled jet but I don't know if that totally cured the problem as I think the plastic guides were another problem area. I'd rather have a 'belt' engine and get it changed at or before the specified interval. What's a few hundred quid once every 4/5 years compared to a ****** engine rebuild. :peek:

I recently had a flyer from my dealer telling me my cambelt change was overdue.... but I have a 1.4Tsi (2010) and it has a chain.  Had one a couple of years back as well.
Incompetence rather than sharp practice I fear, but even so... :dull:

I went to my dealer this morning and asked what the  latest 1.4TSI had, the engine code (I think was 'Caxa' or similar) and he said this was a chain, 100%.
