Mdi device not recognised

Featured Replies

Hi

Just brought a mdi to USB cable for my htc one m8 and tried connecting it but keep getting the message mdi not supported. Is there anything I can do to sort this?

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry i have not a clue on such things, i still use 8 Tracks,

but hopefully someone knowledgeable on such things will be along shortly.

I had this problem trying to connect my Samsung Galaxy S2, the phone had to be 'paired' to the MDI each time it was connected in order to work. If you only want to use it for music, I would suggest buying a cheap USB memory stick and putting all your music files on there instead (which is what I'e done and it works great).

Hoipe this helps.

Is the lead you've bought a genuine Skoda/VW lead as sometimes aftermarket leads can cause error messages, this is more common though with Apple products.

+1 on the usb stick.

Thats what I've done too.

Spent an evening drinking stella and loading CDs onto the memory stick, now i just leave it in the car all the time and select the tracks on the headunit.

I like it :).

Unless your HTC phone presents itself to Windows as a mass storage device, it will not work with a MDI to USB cable. Not all Android devices do, and some require developer mode enabled with USB debugging enabled. Your HTC phone might appear in Windows as a media device (it will still be in explorer), in which case it's not going to work with MDI.

I agree with others, the USB stick is the better option as you can leave it in the car and forget about it. Or if you have a lot of music get a small self powered external USB HDD drive and put the music on that.

+1 for the memory stick. I have three; one for Jazz, Blues & Folk, one for Classical music and one for Audiobooks, Podcasts, etc.

I use an 80gb iPod, had a few issues then found out it was the bitrate of the files.  Max the Mdi likes in iPod format is 128kbps.  Ever since then no issues.

Same reason i cant use my 80gn ipod classic

Everything on there is in audiophile lossless files.

Another vote for the USB stick... 32Gb with about 5,900 tracks on 6 Randomised playlists (as the maximum tracks per playlist is 999) cos the 'Mix' doesn't really work!!

to get into developer mode, goto settings/about and click several times on build and another window will open up

but for me, considering there sooooooooooooooooo cheap too, just buy/use a usb stick
