Retrofitting boot shopping bag hooks - need parts help

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

Earlier this week I decided to replace the two blanking plates in the boot of the Spaceback with the two shopping bag hooks that should be there. Ordered the hooks from my local dealer, arrived this morning. (5JA8676159B9)

Went to fit them - hit a problem. They fit into the space vacated by the blanking plates OK,, but the screws that held on the blanking plate are too short, as the point on the hook where you screw it to the metalwork does not fit flush against the screw post (as the blanking plate did).

I'm trying to work out if I'm supposed to add a spacer or some kind of raised screw post in place of the existing one in order to make the two meet - of if I simply should have a gap and use a longer screw. Have spent the last half an hour looking at the exploded diagram and am none the wiser.

Any guidance would be most helpful.

Cheers

Chris

Can you post the 'exploded diagram' you have?

Hmmm...Shopping bag hooks in the back of an International Playboy's Skoda Hatch...

Why on earth would you need them?

Do you lend the Skoda to the servants when they nip down to Harrod's food hall for posh doughnuts?  :D

I've had a look at the Rapid/Spaceback boot diagrams I have a link too and there's no 'curry' hooks shown, have also looked at the Fabia II and their hooks seem to be a different part number to the one you list.

anyway from recollection with the Fabia II, the bolts with or without hooks differ; with hooks its a much longer bolt.

Here's the diagram:

The hook is part 14 - (5JA8676159B9)

On further investigation, it would appear (if I'm reading the diagram right) that the hook is secured with a plastic spreader rivet (number 32 - part N91141501), rather than a screw.

I've ordered a couple of these (they are pennies per rivet) and will see how I get on when they arrive.

The Plumber: If you look at any of the non-UK pics of the Spaceback boot, you'll see the hooks fitted where we have the blanking plates. Much like the storage boxes that you and I have retrofitted, its another trim item that was deleted from the UK spec for some reason.

camelspyyder: They are quite useful (Had them in the C4 where they were a moulded part of the rear parcel shelf trim, hence my effort to retrofit them). They ensure the Waitrose bags don't fall over in the boot. There's nothing worse than a bruised Papaya! :)

Hey Chris, I agree they are useful - my motor has them as standard, and one doesn't want Veuve Clicquot or Bolly rolling around the boot.

I liked them in the Fabia and would have hoped to have them in the Rapid !

Interesting - in that case (according to the parts lists the Toledo (and thus the Rapid Notchback) uses the same bag hook as the Spaceback. Could you have a look at yours please and see if it's secured with a plastic spreader rivet or a screw?

That's the diagram I have, however item 14 is listed as part no. 5JJ 867 615A 9B9, albeit described as a fitting hook. Mind I suppose I was looking for something like in our Fabia II which folds when not needed and is attached with a decent size bolt.

Well don't I feel like a complete tit. No wonder I can't get the hooks to fit, I've ended up with the wrong part. The Plumber - you are absolutely correct, the part no for the hooks I need is 5JJ 867 615A 9B9 - what I have sat on my desk is 5JA 867 615A 9B9 (which on closer inspection are the hooks for a normal Rapid, not the Spaceback).

Correct hooks have now been ordered.

If anyone has a non Spaceback Rapid and wants to retrofit the hooks, there's two here you can have, just ping me.

I'd be up for those then please [emoji106]

Wow, I cant believe how much kit you don't get in a Rapid Sport compared with a Toledo SE

I'm puzzled by this topic.   On my previous car an Octavia Mk 2 I had a curry hook on one side of the boot and fitted another got from my dealer on the other side using the ready prepared holes provided.

So when I got the Rapid I stupidly assumed it would have a curry hook. Nope. Zilch.  So I asked if there was one available and was told not--and the bloke asked where exactly would I fit it since there are no prepared holes  anywhere.

Cheeky so and so asked if he could see how far the screws stick out of the side of the car after the job is done.  ( Note to myself don't get over friendly with service receptionists because they start to take the piece)

Do your Rapids have prepared holes for hooks or what?  I'm in Spain and they do things differently over here.

Thanks.

There is a square 'blank' plate with a bolt fixing it in place within the boot side panels on the Spaceback, just under the parcel shelf ledge, which from this post I assume to be the fixing point for the 'curry' hook. Looks similar to the arrangement on the Fabia, albeit I'm assuming these don't retract into a stowed position but are fixed.

Yep - that is exactly where the hooks go.

When my correct parts turn up I'll do a little guide to swapping out the blanks for the hooks.

I got 1 bag hook but added nets after

And I've got an Amundsen. The Sport is just an SE but with added seats and trim etc. I definitely didn't want the Swing stereo.

What's so bad about the Swing (mine seems OK). Sure, built in Nav would have been much nicer, but as factory fitted radios go it seems to get the job done.

I was just comparing my standard spec with the first Rapid Sport I saw on Autotrader.

The Toledo is such a hard sell for SEAT UK it gets a lot more spec thrown in I think.

The Toledo SE is more loaded than a Rapid Elegance but at Rapid SE prices.

Anyway, I think of them all as the same car so from now on I will refer to them as Rapido

I like Rapido. I shall purchase a little chrome "o" for the back of ours. Lol

Good for Seat speccing higher than Skoda. [emoji106]

Don't forget the hill hold (not sure about the Rapid having this) and TPM, cooled glovebox and a big bonus a full size spare wheel as standard.

I didn't mess with the spec so as to get quick delivery - so the hill hold / TPM / Heated seats / Headlamp wash all stayed on the option list

Aren't Rapids getting TPM as standard now?
