Featured Replies

hello everyone...

firstly got I have a skoda felicia 1998 Mk2,

so needed to change my alternator and come across a problem,

removed alternator no problems,

got the alternator in place and the belt is on...

both bolts are through one side of the alternator, and through the bracket on the engine...

but I CANT for the life of me get the bolts into their final threaded holes to do up!

any help please please please!!

thanks

The first step when you replace a part is to compare the new part with the old part.

thanks for your somewhat pointless reply. both parts are fine, if you read above it isnt a problem with the part

its the fact that with tension on the alternator I can't get the bolts into the threaded captive nuts of the alternator.

i cant work out how to loosen tension from the belt

Is it a power steering model with a spring loaded tensioner, or a non pas version with the mechanical pre load on the belt?

thanks for your somewhat pointless reply.

Well... I didn't see possible for anyone to know how to release the tension from the belt and remove the alternator, and then to not know how to do the same when installing it. But I was wrong. There are exceptions. Sorry for giving you the benefit of a doubt and thinking the new alternator might had thicker housing. Your description is not crystal clear you know...

I apologise Ricardo sorry.

Tom, it is the power steering model. Could you explain the spring loaded tensioner please? This is my first skoda coming from vws which I now know are very different! Don't suppose you have any pics regarding this spring loaded tensioner? I have purchased a Haynes but won't be arriving until next week. Thanks very much

Hi Ricardo thanks for those.

I read your message half asleep and thought I had explained myself better than I had, again sorry

so on the tensioner wheel there is a nut to stick an open end wrench on, clockwise or anticlock wise? or will it make sense when I see it?

You can't get wrong on that. Downwards.

thanks again Ricardo

I think it's a 16mm spanner you need to release the tension from memory, I want to say clockwise as well, you'll soon figure it out, you will only be able to turn it one way, it is very stiff too

hi chaps. i'm struggling to get this 16mm spanner in place.

i can't get access to the tensioner wheel, the chassis leg is bang in the way!

how would you attack this? please tell me the engine doesn't have to be dropped!

some pics below (although don't really help)
