I think Brawn-Schumacher pairing was pivotal and irreplaceable.

Wasn't Ross linked to Ferrari's Road car division at one point?

That would be like coming from designing cutting edge laptops to designing ergonomic hammers lol

EDIT: However, money talks so why not? :)

There really is more to this Alonso crash than McL are letting on.

It really is a non accident with a non injured driver - he hit the wall, got concussed but is still in hospital?

They still needed someone to deliver in response to Ross saying "I've just gone to a 4 banana strategy; we need 17 qualifying laps."

There can be no doubt he was a good driver but it was Ross & Rory who came up with the championship winning car but 2004 was their last real year on dominance wasn't it. In 2005, they started with a modified 2004 car and it didn't really work out, neither Schumacher, Barichello or latterly Massa could really return to full winning ways after this (to be fair though Schumacher did come 2nd in the 2006 season) but by end of 2006 Byrne was gone, although he did return in an advisory role.

Schumacher's record speaks for itself doesn't it: 7 championships; 91 wins; 155 podiums and 1,566 career points. Out of virtually every statistic, he sits in the top 3.

Dont believe so. Ms Stoddart was a works Mercedes driver before she became Mrs Wolff.

There is a serious conflict of interest if Toto could impose a slow test driver on a competitor, dont you think?

He has been looking to offload his Williams holding since moving to Merc too

He's already reduced his stake by 5% last summer, and has now reduced by a further 5% - he now owns less than 5%. US Healthcare Mogul, Brad Hollinger, bought both lots as an investment and has no plans to be involved at Williams. Wolff's sale was an agreement he had with Daimler.

Although he has now been released from hospital but won't be doing anymore testing - KMag will complete in his place.

All very odd tbh, dotn know what to think.

It's probably the media making something out of nothing. Granted it was bad enough for concussion but with lots of spotlight lately on head injuries in other sports too, McLaren couldn't go and stick him back in the car too soon because the media would jump all over it.

Guys, I was talking about Schumi in the context of "factors in Ferrari winning 6 constructors' and 5 drivers' titles on the bounce".

As regards his recovery, the last I heard was a "please leave him alone to recover in private" message, which seems to have been respected.

To give all those titles complete context you need to add "rules change veto" and "mid season rule changes targeting Michelin".

Williams-BMW could have broken that run had it not been for a rule change just before Monza that year that forced them to change tyre construction.

Starting to remind me of Mansell's "year" at McLaren.  KMag will be back in the seat full time.

I agree Martyn but if you're trying to compare George North's double head blow with this incident, the two aren't really comparable are they? George was hit twice in a head to head contact with absolutely no head protection. Alonso had the protection of a full spec crash helmet, HANS device, seat belts, etc. as well as the entire car affording him further protection.

Unfortunately McLaren are not releasing any data regarding the accident but it is known that Alonso applied full brake pressure and changed down gears prior to the incident, which resulted in very little damage to the car. All four wheels remained attached and there was no damage to the bodywork or crash structure between the wheels.

McLaren's original response was that he "was caught out by a gust of wind". Really?

Not impossible; a gust of tail wind will drop the car's air speed, which is what the available downforce depends on. If he was right on 100% grip in still air, a 20mph tail gust would be enough to spin the car.

I personally think the impact "g's" registered were high enough to keep him under observation. No further testing simply because they want him in the best shape for the season. No point starting being sore all over.

lotus signs fit spanish blonde from GP3 as development driver.

Carmen Jorda - who she?

Massa fastest today (softs)

Merc, McLaren break down.

Ferrari nowhere.

best result in 3 years GP3 - 13th!

so even slower than Susie Stoddart-Wolff then.

LOL, but in F1 they'd be too busy showing off the rest of the field would take themselves out

Depends on what he'd eaten. It's probably fair to say that we've all, at some stage of our lives (alcohol related or otherwise), been caught out by a gust of wind  :giggle:

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmen_Jord%C3%A1 she does have a history of not overly troubling the lap charters and points scorers.

Cash "development driver"...
