hand car wash messed my paint up

Featured Replies

Hi again. Just thought id write this little rant to clear off chest and maybe someone can offer advise

Went to hand car wash on way home from work (never been there before but as there is always posh mercs there and their ad pic shows a lambo and a merc in it) I was expecting good service to say the least

anyways got a wash and wax. And they took the **** being soooo slow (about half an hour)

Got my car home and it is covered in unwashed parts. Swirl marks all over the paint ! I know my car doesnt get washed allot in the winter but its always washed properly when it is and I posh it quite regularly.

Lately I have had no time to do this. Anyway. Am I right for being ****ed off? How would be best way to go about sorting it

I was thinking about asking money back and compensation to get it all rectified by somebody else (I havnt got the time to spend on it myself for a log while)

Rant over now :)

Go to detailing section. ChrisR does a full range of detailing services if your near Yorkshire.

If not, simply post this question there. But its probably a machine polish job, which someone might be able to help if your not in York's or willing to buy a polisher.

You can probably improve the look by hand using Gtechniq G1, but it will take you an while, and still won't be the finish of a proper machine.

Edit, just saw you don't have much time, post there and someone might be able to suggest a detailing service close to you.

Though the first stop is go and shout at them first before getting it sorted, I doubt they will admit to anything but it might at least be cathartic....

I wouldn't bother trying to get money back.  Whilst they may have severely contributed to the swirling it's something which can creep up over time and only appear when someone else cocks it up.

1) don't use car wash again!

2) get car properly machine polished.

Basically, 2 step route to success.  step 2 will involve a LOT of steps though (for the person doing it :D)

I would offer to assist, but you are quite literally the other side of the country :D

Ditto to the above I'm afraid. No offence to OP this is exactly why any of my cars have never been washed by places like this, besides my neighbours think I'm a tad odd lol as I actually enjoy cleaning my car, and class it almost a bit of a hobby.

My car doesn't even get cleaned when it goes to my local Skoda dealer for servicing as I always make sure it's clean to go in to them in the first place, I don't trust anybody to clean my car bar a good local detailer :)

Really sorry to read this

There is no way youll get anywhere trying to get compensation Im afraid

It will need polishing.

Youre only around 2hours drive from here in Bingley, West Yorks

I've never used one of those hand wash places

I don't like jetwash as its so ineffective and expensive

(doesn't shift the dirt unless you are using the brush and it still counts down when all you are doing is brushing your car)

(its so much quicker to wipe dirt you can see of by hand and not charged by the minute for doing it) but would rather do that than a hand wash

Best of both would be to get wife/gf to get off their arse and use the brush at same time as you are spraying, preferably in a skimpy tshirt

BUT since moving house I've untold amount of free, rainwater being contained in water butts about the place that its ridiculous

Plus car gets filthy in seconds in this weather, no point spending money on it being "clean" as its so temporary!

I agree until you say this:

no point spending money on it being "clean" as its so temporary!

Once a car is properly cleaned and protected with Wax or Sealant or both..

.....It is so much easier to clean and also there is an element of self cleaning too

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

The only good thing about hand car washes is they tend to create business for me to sort, so I can't complain too much.  I've seen some fair horrors in my time.

Me too Jason

The 'tell tale' straight line scratches of Mechanical car washes too!!!

They use harsh chemicals and filthy rags to do the job as fast as possible. Theres a reason it takes a couple of hours to wash a car properly. I really should get mine cleaned, its been down muddy tracks over the last three months and not had even a quick hose down in that time.

You know where I am Huskoda ;)

I do, except I would have to give it a prewash as I don't want to be held liable for the heart attack you'd have if you saw it :)

Believe me...It wont be as bad as a few Ive seen..Trust me!!

Went to my local car wash today for a carpet clean (£2). They are always giving me funny looks as I don't let them wash it. Watched their guys going hell for leather on a brand new Audi 4x4! On the plus side they dried with a microfibre towel, on the down side they washed with a sponge. I cringed as they pulled the dirt off the bottom of the rear bumper and proceeded to wipe the sponge over the rear panel where the filler cap was. That 14 plate car won't look like one for long!

I think I finaly convinced the lad when he said

"It was dark so I couldnt get every last spot"

My reply "you shouldn't be offering car washed if you cannot see what you are doing amd vus cannot do a good job. The couple of spots you missed with the mit you have shammed over and spread the grit around"

I think your fortunate and well done!

Throw the £50 towards a detail from ChrisRS.

Your just in time to take advantage of the end of the November charity sale, so car detailed to top spec, £50 paid for by sponge bob, a November saving to add onto that and a bit more in the pot for the charity.

Everyones a winner baby!

Where you located mate?

You'd be surprised what results you can achieve yourself at relatively minor outlay. Read up and have a go ;-). I'm far from a pro but am very pleased with the results I achieve.

Totally agree & the added satisfaction of doing it all yourself.
