GoPro - hit me!

Featured Replies

OK - I fancy one, I've never owned one before.

I am getting very confused by the different numbers etc but I just want one which is waterproof, can be suction mounted to my car, and do that recording thing.

I also don't want to spend megabucks, but want to ensure if I am going to buy used, I buy the right thing.

Boss Fox had a couple of used 3's for sale a bit back, he might have one left if you're lucky.

So what IS a "3" ? :D

I think I need more of a lowdown on the whole scene to be honest. :D

Why does it need to be waterproof?

Surely you screen mount them?

He may own a convertible  :D

Dont convertables have screens? :giggle:

The GoPro 4 HERO (or just "4") version just came out.

On the previous 3 version you had:

White (basic, but fine)

Silver (more advanced, roughly the same as a GoPro 2 when there was only one version)

Black (extra features and smaller)

There was also a black plus to squeeze a few more £££ out of those that must have the best.

They all come with a waterproof case and a sticky mount so you can put it on the inside of your windscreen.

The suction mount is an optional extra and not allowed at a lot of track days.

Feel free to PM me if you want to.

Wifi is handy as you can use it to set the view of the camera up without the optional video backback.

But it does eat the battery if you leave it switched on.

The Black versions have this as standard.

If buying used, I'd just get a 3 Black or Black+ from someone that feels the need to upgrade to the newer 4 black.

I ordered three 4 black and now have them.  Sold my 3 Blacks off for £200 each with a few extra mounts.

Because you can mount them on the outside too like down low on the front for an impression of greater speed or on the side to see some front wheel action.

Thanks

I highly rate Go Pro's

i still have my original HD Hero 1 and the footage from it is good.

So anything after the orginal will be just as good and/or better!

I have gone ahead and bought Bossfox's gopro 3 black.  It should be great for what I initially want (videoing smoke out my side exit exhaust) but I am sure will be useful for lots of other things.

For anyone else nosing about buying one, you can get the 3+ silver for £189 new now the 4's are out. I'd have bought a 3 black but nowhere had them stocked at the time!

I'm happy with it though, wifi built in, so I have the option to set up th view using my phone, then I'll switch to the wifi remote which uses less battery on the camera than transmitting video over wifi.

Great fun to play with :)

Just bought a Hero 1 for Xmas from Halford £89. Just the basic but brilliant quality

Too late to recommend the Drift Ghost S HD then....

Maybe more biker focused but up there with even the mk 4 Go pro.

Mrs G got mine for my xmas present  from some place in Germany and it came with

flat and curved adhesive mount, goggle strap mount, handlebar mount, Screw in mount for fitting to

bodywork or similar, velcro strap for remote, 16gb memory card, battery, and a few cables etc.

Best features include

Waterproof to about 8 ft straight out of the box.

Wifi remote with LEDs to show you what it's doing.

DVR mode with power supplied by USB cable.

Rotatable lens so footage is right way up whatever way camera is mounted.

More aerodynamic than go pro so better for helmet mount,

I ordered a suction mount, selfie pole, spare battery, external mic, extra curved mounts and a carry case

yesterday.  Really looking forward to my first blat out on the bike with it fitted.

Where you going to put it when on the bike Garry?

Good bit of kit, especially for your intended use.

A little cheaper than the GoPro 4 black but lacking a few recording options few people actually use.

Quite similar to the GoPro Silver, but better for bike mounting for sure.

The GoPro is an amazing bit of kit, but does look like a toaster.

Best description ever. It feels like that when stuck to me lid too.

Got a few options open, fairing/tank cam via suction mount when it comes,

helmet cam, rear facing on seat via goggle mount and strap, handlebar cam,

pannier rack cam left and right sides  (should get a nice shot of either side of the bike in frame)

or theres screen cam if there's room for the suction mount.

I also fitted it to the neck of my guitar for a down the fretboard view and tested it today with

regard to mic sensitivity by recording some drumming. The inbuilt mic handled things better than I thought it would.

On the whole very happy with it, still to test the burst camera mode.

Quick question to all of you with Go Pro's - what sort of head strap would you recommend? After getting one but not keen on the '50 in 1' accessory packs off of EBay. Is it worth forking out for the official one? Or are the cheap head straps just as good?

I'll be honest, I always use genuine accessories even though they are a bit pricy.

Mainly because you are hanging a £300+ camera off of it...

Fair point. I will definitely be using an official mount for snowboarding, that is when I'd prefer a more reliable piece when a 60mph crash happens... Although I'll be looping a strap of some description around the chin strap just in case.

I will see what I can find.

Have you by any chance got a 'lcd' display screen? One coming with the camera I bought, however it is being 'temperamental' I am told.

Yes I have.

Not had any problems but only use it for lining up the camera in a car.

I see, I imagine it eats battery power?

I will have a tinker with it to see if I can get it to work properly, although I assume it is a sealed unit?

Am I right in saying that the screen can't be used with the waterproof housing?

Yes it will use the battery about 30-50% faster in my experience.

It should come with an extended rear case door so you can get the backpack inside the waterproof housing.
