Cheeky so and sos now charging extra for Laser White and Corrida Red

Featured Replies

I see from the latest download brochure and configurator that Skoda now jumping on the bandwagon and charging extra for popular non - metallic colours

Edited by Alfred54

So pathectic blue is the only free colour ?

Primer is included for the base price as it is a base paint....

the online configurator shows white as the only free colour for the vrs, white and a dark blue on the others.  same as ever isin't it?  candy white is the free one, not laser white, and corrida red has been £175 for a while now.

Money for nothing and an easy way to push up margins (or the straw that breaks the camels back and directs disgruntled customers elsewhere).

What are Ford like now. Perhaps a new Mondeo is in order?

Thankfully this dark blue i presume is Pacific Blue. Now surprise surprise, just so happens to be the colour of my car. A marvellous colour it is to :D

So I think the moral of this story is, the best is always free? lol

All these options are still free in Ireland

Candy white

Corrida red

Laser white

Meteor grey

Sprint Yellow

Wheres Blue??? Disgraceful!

Just re-ran my order through (non-VRS) and it shows Corrida as extra now. I think it is a bit mean as it's a flat colour. Recent mag review made a point of mentioning that Skoda offered more choice in free colours. Looks like I got my order in at the right time then.

You guys are so lucky with your colour choices.

in Australia the only 2 flat colours in the Ambition / Elegance spec are Corrida Red & Candy White - both $0 extra.  $475 (about GBP300???)  buys you Black Magic, Moon White, Capucino, Topaz Brown, Brilliant Silver, race Blue & Metal Grey.  It's the most boring colour range in the world.

vRS gets you Steel Grey but loses Capucino & Topaz Brown

So we miss out on Pacific Blue, Laser White, Rio Red & Denim Blue in the basic vehicles and in the vRS Rallye Green, Meteor Grey & Sprint Yellow are all missing.

In Estonia, both Laser White and Corrida Red have been available only as "special" extras. Recently, Candy White that was included before, has been added to this list. So you were lucky to have so many "free" colors anyway.

The current prices for available colors (according to the brochure) here:

Free (included in price) - only Pacific Blue
+ 130 € - Candy White, Corrida Red
+ 260 € - Laser White
+ 390 € - Metallic (Brilliant Silver, Cappuccino Beige, Rio Red, Race Blue, Denim Blue), Black Magic
+ ??? € - unlisted colors

If I remember correctly, the only thing that's changed in this list is the extra charge to Candy White, others have always been like that.

Pretty soon they'll supply a primer only option, allowing Skoda to quote low base prices and charge for even the most basic of colours.

wait a minute......

They certainly used to be very good, but bit by bit the free colours have vanished. Im sure there was a good half dozen when I got by car.

If you buy as a fleet buyer you will pay nothing extra.

Private buyers subsidising fleets perhaps or just being shafted as much as possible.

Standard mettalic pains should be no where near £500 extra as most are.

This is getting beyond the joke, we are now having to pay to have our cars painted. Why do we stand for this bulls##t in the uk, it's nothing more than a con.

Oh

Blue is so common here now they will be paying you to buy one in that color  :D

This is how large companies work and I think you're correct, in a way it is a con :) The first goal of a corporation is to provide maximum return for the shareholders. Companies achieve this by minimising costs (e.g. parts, overheads, labour, warranty outlay, etc.) and maximising revenue (effective marketing, highest possible pricing, etc.). The fact that the company "happens" to produce cars is only a secondary point to the main aim of "creating shareholder value".

VW/Skoda will have done all the sums. They will have calculated that any loss in car sales will be more than compensated for by increased revenue from charging more for paint.

Anyone who owns shares, or has a private pension fund which invests in shares, will benefit from these types of pricing decisions made by large corporations. Any increase in the value of stocks don't arrive out of thin air. The money has arrived out of someone elses pocket  :)  Once shareholders demand more returns, corporations have to be "cheeky so and sos" and dig deeper into the customer's pocket.

Never fear, corporations have got you by the balls and they know it.

They certainly used to be very good, but bit by bit the free colours have vanished.

Free? I'm pretty sure we're already paying quite a lot for those "free" colours.

What we're being asked to do is pay even more for them. :(

Oh, and because previous brochures only had two "free" options for the L&K -- Candy White and Laser White -- there's now only one. (I'm tempted to say that Candy White is now not so much free as afFordable....  *Gets coat* )
