VRS first oil change!?!

Featured Replies

2013 octavia iii vrs on variable servicing - 'oil change in 17 days' has come up on display - 9000miles on clock, just over a year old. Local dealer says bring in to reset indicator. How do I do this myself to save hassle? Was easy on octavia vrs ii. Also it just says oil change - does it not mention 'service' these days, or is there more than one option? Cheers

I had my oil change needed come on at around the same mileage so I took it into the dealers to have the oil change service carried out ;) that got rid of the warning.

Mines in today for it's first 10K service and have it set to Fixed Servicing. I personally think 2 years or  20K is a bit long. Ok if your doing mega milage but I'm not

Oil change surely means it is on Fixed Servicing?  Oil change after 12 months and Inspection after 24 months???  My guess would be that the dealer has changed it to fixed during the PDI...

If you look at the service indicator there are 'Oil' and 'Inspection' service on the VAG MQB platform cars - there is a bit of a quirk on the FR Leon I have at the moment where the variable mileage for both oil / inspection can be set correctly but the time for inspection max is one year and oil is max two years. The service indicators for oil / inspection are reset independently of each other. Touch wood the Octavia has been ok.

If on variable mileage just make sure it's first service is 18600 miles / 2 years (whichever comes first) if the dealer just resets the indicator.

Check CAR>>Setup>>Service on infotainment menu.

Why would they? Except the travellers in trannies who then tip it down the drain, I haven't seen anyone change their own oil for years.  Why not preserve the maintenance record and visit a garage with the car and your wallet?  Given trade prices for oil, it can be cheaper than messing about yourself.

I see your in a 2013 model, how come your on variable servicing? Did you miss the Free Servicing deal?Don't know if you are, but, if your on the deal you HAVE to get it done at 10000 miles otherwise it voids the Warranty. Seems like a no brainer really and can't understand Skoda on this but when I spoke to the Service manager at my Dealer he said they still use the same oil as for variable which in previous marks of vRS that I've owned went to 19000 miles on an oil change!

Reset - oil change service

› Switch off the ignition (for vehicles with the KESSY system all doors as well as

the luggage compartment and bonnet flaps must also be shut).

› Press the button 6 » Fig. 2 on page 9 and keep it pressed down.

› Switch on the ignition, the following message displays.

Reset oil change service?

RESET OIL SERVICE

› Release and then press again the button 6 .

"Button 6" is the button below the maxi-dot (0.0/set)

Mine was ex-demo so didnt have from new. Was told on variable (18k or 2 years). I've asked more than one dealer if, as car is new, it needs oil change b4 this distance/time and told no.

All I'm trying to avoid is ****ing about taking it in to have interval reset by doing myself.

Sounds like it is clearly on fixed....otherwise it wouldn't be telling you to have an oil service. All variable services are referred to as Inspection Services as far as I am aware...

Although it's come on over its 1 year birthday - 13.5 months. Would have come on b4 it's October birthday surely if fixed??

I had the x3 free fixed interval services then switched to variable at 30k. Both the oil and inspection service countdowns in the infotainment are now showing the same, they started counting down from 18,700 miles or 730 days after the switch to variable. When it was delivered on fixed interval, the oil service was triggered after 9,300 miles but inspection service was always on a 18,700 mile cycle. Also, anyone on fixed service should ignore the computer at 9,300 and wait until 10,000 as per the paperwork provided by SUK.

Does this mean that if had the free first 3 fixed service deal that they didn't put long life 'variable' oil in it from new? Or is all the oil essentially long life these days?

The car always has long life oil in it from new. A lot of dealerships also default to using long life oil at all services regardless of whether they are doing a fixed or variable service...
