That's what shocked me when I saw it :(

This says,,,always buy a 9-12months old :notme:

Its always the new buyer takes the biggest hit for that great feeling of "NEW CAR" (last a month until first payment!!)

I would say buy pre reg and haggle having got 19% and 32% off that way.

But this time I just searched for bargains, leaned on the dealer to price match and got the 23% off a brand new one ordered to my spec.

Theres a Rapid Sport in white on Ebay now 14 Plate £10.5k, if they paid full RRP of £15,630.00 that's almost 5 grand depreciation in 9 months!

Only if the buyer paid retail.  Last week the last zero miles 14 plate white Sports were on at 11495 and 11995, nowhere near 15630

Using your figures that's probably 2-3 k of negative equity for the first owner as well!!

This is what I did. Managed to pick up a 9 month old Spaceback SE (diesel) with 2k mileage for 40+% off the list price a few months ago. What clinched it for me was the inclusion of Amundsen, climate & spare wheel (plus of course floor mats), which in theory increases the % reduction further.

Buying used limits the choice to a degree but fortunately the car also happened to be my 1st choice of colour. Unfortunately I had to forgo the panoramic roof and larger alloys. To this end I have still not found a similar offer at this price point on the Skoda website for used cars.

Originally I had looked at the Rapid (still prefer the overall shape to the Spaceback) but amongst other things (due to their age) didn't like the older steering wheel design (four spoke). The MFSW wheel comes in handy with the Maxi Dot etc. However there remains some fantastic offers for used Rapids.

I bought an 13-plate 86PS S Spec on a Pre-Reg for £10k which I thought was a great deal - it was only pre-reg'd for a month so I got the majority of the warranty on it.

Earlier this week I traded in for another Rapid at Motorpoint - I got £6250 for my S spec, has just under £10k miles. In terms of % depreciation it's a fair whack but I was expecting that given the spec.

I wasn't too fussed though given what I traded in for  ...

Although it's a 63 plate it was registered on the last day of Feb so it's 1 day from being a 14 plate. 1 previous lady owner, HPI clear, UK sourced, as-new condition. It's marked as an SE but it's definitely a Sport as I rang Skoda UK to confirm it.

Needless to say I jumped on it - I wasn't planning on changing cars (I was going to run the S into the ground) but it would be rude not to :)

Oh dear.

Good buy indeed, looks like a very nice motor but goes to show how over inflated the original SUK RRP for this type of car was.

To get good value out of ours I'm thinking a five year ownership at least (to the end of the warranty), although you never know, tend to get very itchy feet by 3 years   :D

Agreed - I frequently check AutoTrader every now and again for bargains (not just for me but for other members of my family) and this popped up - otherwise I was perfectly happy with my S.

There was also a 14 plate Black Edition with 9000 miles going for £9600 - I rang to enquire but it sold before I could go and have a look. That was a good deal too although I much prefer white.

Black edition was loaded though - unlike the Sport.
