Hi, New here but not to Skodas, Recently gone from a 2005 2.0 PD 140bhp to a 2010 1.6CR tdi. Despite the claimed figures that i should be getting 10mpg more, i am actually getting 5mpg less on the same commute. It is mostly traffic free and I am not heavy footed. Old car used to return about 54mpg, new one is only giving me 49mpg ...any suggestions?

On my 1.6tdi with 168k on clock- lowest is 5.4l/100km (52.3 MPG) with averege speed 40mk/h (25miles). So don't think you can do some better difference.

That 1,6 CR engine isn't all it's cracked up to be to be honest the old PD unit without all the extra emission reg stuff on it was far better as far as MPG and reliability went, I have a mapped 2ltr PD that achieves 60's on a run and it's in the 50's with me driving it enthusiastically locally and trust me it gets no sympathy either, the common rail unit seems to get better with higher mileage

I used to get a fair amount of customers moaning about mpg with the 1.6 Cr, especially those that had owned vehicles with the previous generation engines, Since moved on to a different franchise where life is far more harmonious !

What sort of commute? Motorway, A road - speed?  I would expect better than that (see my comments below)  - Is a stop start route?

My experience is the 1.6CR is a good engiine  - I would get high fifties on a bad trip and over eighty on a good trip with an average of 66mpg on a 37mile motorway commute (over 60k miles). Even If I went the back way (Small lanes, lots of corners etc I could still get into the high 50s!)

Its a reasonably easy commute, 3 miles of country lanes, 15 miles of dualled A roads and a couple miles of light city traffic. Never really drive it hard.

I came from a 2.0PD like you Silverainbow and the same trip would give me 56-58mpg with a bit more right foot fun involved! Ive heard the weather can be a huge factor so will grin and bear it for the winter. Also see what my real MPG spreadsheet will give me.
