Hello, my name is malc, 66yrs young & love pole-fishing. I have just traded my freelander in & bought a beautiful '08 fabia estate in silver (i absolutely love it). Been looking at fabias for a couple of months, as i had already decided that it was going to be.

Have gone for the 1.9tdi & well impressed with the performance, same size engine as freelander1 but only half the weight (wicked). Have already spent quite a few hours trolling the site & can i say it's put together very well & easy to navigate, Obviously loads of really helpful & freindly members. Hope i have lots of fun & not too many probs with my new car. Which incidentally.... in my opinion is the most classiest looking of the entire vag group. Thanks for welcoming me, malc.

Hello Malc, and welcome aboard, I'm at NE Wakey (Stanley area), we have Yorkshire & Humberside meets in the better weather that have tended to start at The Old Post Office M1 jn 38, then move to The Wetherby Whaler on Denby Dale Rd (next door to DMK!). Watch the Events section...

BTW, I can highly recommend Freedom Membership, excellent value, lets you sell stuff and other privileges, and most importantly it helps keep the site going!

The front end of my Roomster is essentially same as your car, it's the back bit that's bulkier (and wider track from Octavia).

Enjoy!

Richard

PS, we had a fab National Meet in August at a very breezy old airfield over in Lincolnshire, great day out, you'll find pix of it, Blyton Park circuit is the venue, already discussion on here re 2015 event.

Richard

Be aware that some of us Old Uns are rather odd around here!

Venture further afield to Sutton in Ashfield and you get them every month!

BTW, nbJubilee doesn't lie. :x

Hi Malc, welcome to the forum, like yourself my previous motor was a 03 Freelander and I loved it but it was just too expensive to run especial as the tax increased each year.

I currently own a mk3 Octavia thanks to financial help from my son, I am a tad older than yourself (coming up 72 in January ) so please respect your elders (joke)

I hope that you get as much pleasure from your car as I do, by the way I live in the Selby area and threaten myself that one day I shall attend a meet so perhaps will see you there.

All the best to you,

Best regards to all

G.

Many thanks for the warm welcome.

RichardatWakefield, i know Stanley quite well & used to partake in a drink (or 2) at the Post Office. Will look into the Freedom thing, as i do believe in putting something back in for all the help given out. Will check out the next National Meet, as the Wife & I travel to Skegness every weekend throughout the summer (caravan).

nbjubilee..... don't worry, i can be extremely odd at times, ha-ha. Thanks for the welcome.

john999boy....will also check Sutton out, no promises though 'cos caravanning in summer & i've no intentions of taking my sparkly Fabia out in the winter rain. lol. Thanks for the welcome.

oldtynesider....mine was a '06 facelift, like you, i loved it but as you said, the running costs became too much, 200 mile round trip to caravan every weekend just got too expensive. Last renewal for Freelander was £476!!!! Fabia has cost £220 with extra annual miles :sun: By the way, were you a member of Landyzone? also a good site. Used to go to Cawood Touring Park near to you, nice curry-shop just over the level-crossing if i remember. Thanks for the welcome.

Hi Wheelie1, Yes I was a member of the landyzone but not on it very often, I am thinking that you must be posh with a newer Freelander than mine. in my humble opinion this site offers much more in the way of info, advice and friendship,

Re the tax, the landrover was about £350 at the last time I seem to recall but at my age you must excuse the memory lapses, the Skoda I have now is £0 tax, I am not telling the current wife incase she decides to have a shopping spree at my expense.

I am not too far from Cawood and pass it most days if I travel to York or Tadcaster,

You should take your car out into the winter weather, it is a real pleasure and relief when it comes clean again after washing it.

Best regards to all, G

Hello G, Oh yes.....i'm posh alright! bought the facelift with a small inheritence left to the Wife lol & we live in a very posh ex-colliery house, that we paid £8,500 in '88. Guess that does make make me quite 'posh' haha. Yes, on top of road tax & near £450 insurance

it just got too much but £60 tax for my 1.9tdi Fabia suits me fine, also £220 ins for Wife & I is great.

Sorry G, but still not going anywhere if it's raining, I refuse to get her dirty haha. Anyway the only important thing left on my mind is what happens next.....Gaylander was 1.9tdi (bmw) approx 1.5 tons light & Fabia is 1.9tdi (vw) approx 0.5 tons! Just hope the bloody brakes are good. Regards,

Malc.

john999boy, are we allowed to mention eastern europeans & fishing in the same sentence? lol. In fact...should I really be talking to you, owner of VW & BMW....shame. Btw Wife & I love your hometown, we toured a few times to the caravan site next door to the cricket ground. Thanks for the welcome. Malc.

P.S. john999boy, I don't  believe those quad exhausts are for real on the pic. Would look much better on a Fabia lol. Thanks for the welcome. Malc.
