Picking up Black vRS on Friday (or if not Monday)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Said hello before about  6 months back as a non-skoda owner/keeper - but now glad to say now collecting Octy MkIII vRS diesel DSG estate in Pearl Black on Friday (although may be Monday if the bank transfer doesn't make it in time on Thursday to release the car).

Thanks to you guys previously, as with the advice here i think i got the spec sorted (as i thought i'd maybe get retro sat nav but this isn't possible unless this has changed recently?)

Main options on this car are;

  • Columbus sat nav
  • Canton speakers
  • Leather and heated front seats
  • Power boot lift
  • Black pack
  • Rubber boot liner!  :D
  • 5 year / 100k warranty (as i'll probably use the 60k in less than 2 years)

So just to re say hello, and will try and search for answers in the various sections prior to hopefully asking a daft one - although any thoughts on what i should wash / wax / polish a black one with?

Cheers

Jamie

I use poor boys black hole on mine with a coat of nattys paste wax after

Thanks for that - i will look that up.

Its my first skoda, and first non-ford and grey car i've had in a while, so will be reviewing my valeting procedures and equipment.

Although i'm reasonable at cleaning/polishing cars, i no expect detailer - just wondering if it worth getting done properly by someone first and then keeping on top of myself? I'll look at that in the valet forum room anyway.

As you suggest post your question in the styling and car section, but be prepared to get your credit card out! Especially with pearl black your wash technique will be critical to avoid swirls. You could consider investing in a nilfisk jetwash, autobrite snowfoam lance, some snow foam, use 2 bucket method with grit guards to wash and either microfibre wash mit or better still (IMO) A dooka lambswool washpad. Either meguirs gold or autoglym shampoo conditioner plus some decent microfibre drying towels would be a good start as a regular wash routine. Steer clear of acidic wheel cleaner. Valetpro Bilberry wheel cleaner is a good choice. It really depends on how far you want to go after that. As far as protection is concerned there are lots of choices from waxes to sealants depending on how long you want it to last and what your priorities are durability/ease of application/how shiny you want it. Detailing world has some useful guides on it too. Good luck.

Auto Glym. Pure and simple.

Post some pics up once its collected - perfect Christmas present!

I'd used auto glym along time ago before but got some meguires nxt stuff at a ford show a long time ago, and just used this on my 'mundane' grey fords since, although still use the glass polish. My detailing experience is pretty limited to a hose, bucket/spong autoglym or megriures, tyre silicone, and glass polish - so thinking of being a bit more methodical with the new motor!

It's certainly a nice thing to have at christmas, but as we have second baby on the way (due 30th Dec), i guess i have to say the car will be the second best present this year. Just trying to get some sleep in before things go hectic again for a few months and hence was good to also get car sorted prior to this! Hopefully the leather will pay benefits with baby and toddler mess (as not sure how long the no food/drink rule will last!)

What ever you do ditch the sponge and chamois if you have one and go microfibre. Gtechniq do a leather treatment that gets very good reviews which would help with the little one.

Picked up today :-). Dealer actually phoned and asked if I could pop in earlier, was only at work so thought hell yeah!

Right now to get matching child seats and some proper cleaning gear...

I used to think the same, but last couple of years gone over to poorboys for the skoda and classic ford show cars, but still use autoglym interior shampoo, mainly cos I bought a gallon of it

I have a Black Magic vRS.  It looks awesome when clean but by Jaga is it tough to keep it that way.

In my experience, the 2 bucket method with a pressure washer goes a long way to keeping the car swirl free. I tried Snow foam but found it made little difference.

One thing I have noticed is the paintwork scratches really easily

Man that car looks sweet...and with that roof box even more so.

Yeah, think its gonna be tough to keep clean and reckon i've got my work cut out to keep it a neat as yours Farsider, but it was/is menacingly smart when it is clean (i.e. when i picked it up on Friday - not so now!). Scared to wash it now until i've sorted my technique and now hoping for a pressure washer from father xmas!

Interesting to see with roof box and that its still well tidy, i don't have one and haven't fully tried the cavernous boot yet - but with another kid on the way, it maybe something that is needed at some point for big trips.

I hate roof boxes but I had to reluctantly give in for the same reason. A black glossy roof box complements the car very well.
