  • Probably made for him by one of the larger wax manufacturers. Take a look on Detailing World but leave your credit card out of arms reach. Jack will agree on that bit

Thats true, loads to choose from. A lot is also down to personal preference, what some will like, others may not.

Definitive Show Edition is a lovely, wet, glossy wax, but it aint cheap.

I think that is what I like about Waxes over sealants.  It is a very personal choice.

For me buying a sealant is like buying a German Supercar, it will more than likely be technically superb and perform brilliant.  Buying a wax is like buying an Italian Supercar, in some areas it may be a let down but as an overall experience it is more emotive and involved.

I will freely admit that even the best of the best the wax world has to offer will ultimately be pipped on durability and other qualities by a sealant, but I will always be a wax enthusiast.

Well written & agree 100%

Plus the overall experience ie smells, packaging etc. It might not be important to some, but I prefer the overall "wax" package.

Ah the smell. Cant beat it.

The garage currently smells lovely because I've done the bike recently.

Highlight of walking in there atm aha.

Harly wax is very good easy on easy off lasts ages about 22 quid a tin delivered .

Nice thread chaps - enjoyed reading the positive comments throughout.

Having owned both Vic's Concours and Def Wax Show edition - both are superb.

I will also add in Auto Finesse Illusion as a fantastic wet look show wax

Budget would really help define the scope of you purchase perhaps?

I'm having my ears done tomorrow, " Do you want the wax ? "   :notme:

Ahh so much to read haha. Cheers mate.

Erm. Well as i say, id get a sample tub if possible, as itd last long enough.

But something like up to £70 for a really decent full size tub, aslong as its good on silver too ;) (if im spending all that lol).

I understand they can all be used on any colour? Its just that some work better with certain colours? Am i right?

Cheers again guys.

Its a minefield out there! Haha

Another vote for vics concours it's a lovely wax to work with and the results are pure gloss.

Another of my favourite waxes just for looks is purple haze with it having Montan in its mixture too it adds to its looks tremendously.

What dodo juice say about purple haze

Purple Haze is the colour-charged soft wax for dark coloured cars, created from the finest natural ingredients.

As smooth as silk, Purple Haze has a voluptuous texture and gives outstanding results on darker coloured cars thanks to the addition of black montan wax and dark beeswax to No.1 grade Brazilian carnauba. One of the most sophisticated Dodo Juice waxes, with a fragrance of fresh lavender - a

premium quality wax without the premium price.

Outstanding durability

High gloss

Superb value for money

Easy to apply and remove

Containing the finest natural ingredients

Designed specifically for yellow, orange and RED paintwork, including metallics

Economical - one jar provides 15-25 layers of wax!

This is what confuses me mate.

It says 'colour charged soft wax for DARK colours' and 'outstanding results on DARKER coloured cars'

then later in it says 'Designed specifically for yellow, orange and RED paintwork'

They just seem to contradict? I mean, am i missing something here? I've never seen a dark yellow? Haha.

Bit of a rubbish picture but this is the red, after the Gtechniq p1 and application of dodo juice supernatural.

Its certainly not dark haha.

Marketing....Colour makes no difference

They say that to sell it...or pray on the ignorance of buyers if you like

Example of another....Poorboys Blackhole and Poorboys White diamond.....OK a glaze with fillers...but you get the idea

Both can be used on a white car and vice versa ...Cars are not plain coloured paint..They are sprayed with clear laquer, so the colour of the wax is irrelevant

Hope this helps in your confusion

The Bike looks great BTW

That does explain a lot. Makes a lot more sense now, Thanks Chris!

Ah. I coulda used some swissvax glacier last year on the car too, but i didnt because my cars silver n it reckons thats for white.

I wish i had done now hahaa.

I totally agree that this sector is totally awash with excessive bloated marketing claims and a lot of coloured waxes likes the AD Supercharged and the Dodo juice waxes are all more or less the same wax.  A good case in point would be Jay @ Obsession Waxes custom brews, gorgeous high quality waxes with good carnauba content (by volume) but choose any colour you like for any car colour.  It makes no odds.

I do disagree though that it is all marketing, Poorboys blackhole can be used on any colour car, 100% true.  But it does bring out fantastic results on black so not entirely incorrect on the manufacturers part to say it is best suited to Black and dark cars.  But there is a lot of myth surrounding these colour specific products.

Same for waxes, the colour may be irrelevant but things like optical clarity, oil content, reflectivity does alter the look of a wax which may lend itself to a particular paint type or colour over another.  I would certainly consider different waxes for a solid black paint car and a metallic blue.  But as you say I would rarely base that on the colour of the wax itself.

and as good as any LSP is prep will always win the day.  Given two equally grubby cars to prep my money would always be on the man (or woman) who was handy with a rotary over the less experienced detailer with his pot of Crystal Rock.

All very interesting guys. Cheers!

Theres soo much to learn.

I've been on detailing world and it dangerous isnt it haha. Trying to learn off those guys but theres so much to it im trying to decide which bits are relevant and which bits are abit too far.

To put in perspective, i remind myself that most cars seem to be taken to a crappy horribly hand car wash of swirls and brick acid. Haha.

Thanks Mark

At the end of the day ...Dont think that a red wax is just for a red car, or a grey one...yellow one etc......

Manufacturers may well state that its best suited to a particular colour due to its content...Personally Ive not seen any difference that is worth recommending

There may be one out there, but it probably wont make any difference ...at least not to me

Agree with DW...Some seriously 'anal' people on there who would argue that black is white..lol

Thanks Mark

Are you really sayiing you have never seen a difference in finish from different waxes though?  You've never thought that a wax did a particularly good job of bringing out the best of a colour?

I also agree on DW being a most unfriendly and pedantic place at times where everyone is god's gift to detailing.  But with that said it is still hands down the richest source of information on the subject currently on the web.  Just need to wade through a fair amount of dross to get to the good stuff.

I know you were agreeing with me Mark BTW
