New Focus RS - Golf R beater?

You mean revoknuckle? The actual diff lock concept is unsurprisingly similar, given neither car manufacturer designed it themselves.... Ultimately it doesn't matter how clever it is, the traction from fwd cannot be as high as 4wd everything else being equal.

Watch the Suttcliffe video.

£25k bargain. I think most of us would be surprised if it outgripped 4WD in UK winter conditions, same as the Leon. I'd like to compare the two, I've always rated the Focus, and the 5cly 2.5 engine is a belter. 300bhp isn't much though is it? They're going to soon be flatfooted in the headline stakes for sure as VAG assault us with a multi-brand uber-hatch offering. Christ, we've never had it so good, if all you have / want is one car to do it all.

I think it will be immense. Just like every other hot hatch ford have made.

Except the mk5 RS 2000

Its too late in the lifetime of the current focus lifespan

I personally couldn't justify spending that amount of money on a Ford. I know everyone will say your paying for the badge then but I'm not. If you look in a basic Audi A3 it looks basic but good quality ... then take a look inside the S3 looks kitted out solid and good quality, where as the RS still looks like a basic ford on the inside no fancy trimmings and everything feels a bit cheap. I know a guy who bought one as a CAT D done it up because he owned a body shop and took it unto about 500+ bhp  looked and sounded the dogs hydraulics on the outside but no matter what he done it was still a ford.......

I know exactly what you're saying there.

I've driven £25k transits with all the extras on. All the extra buttons felt just as cheap as the basic ones.

Bit half as well put together as a vw or skoda tbf

Yeah we had a new transit in work had all the mod cons but like you said just hasn't got that expensive feel.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

mk2 owners who bought from new have lost next to no money. A 10 plate with 15k miles and a good spec will still set you back £23k+

people who have them near might bought them on the discount ticket. so probably about 18.000

Not interested until there is a DSG and expect the 20% discount off retail for a Ford to deal with the depreciation compared to a VAG car and not sure I can visit some clients with it unless they are based in Essex.  Alastair Cook has one I heard.

Chavtastic

That's a bit funny you mention "depreciation"', the last model focus RS actually holds it value better than the equivalent vw golf of the same approximate RRP. Also faster, handles better and walks all over it doing the ring lap times. And further more, if the vag group of cars are so well made, why are some many back at the dealers every week having stupid interior problems fixed, that's right, there so well made. Nice to see badge snobbery is alive and kicking.

Thought the crown for the fastest front wheel drive car round the ring had been between the Golf-based Leon Cupra and the Renault.  Please provide a link showing the ford in the running as I must have missed that one.

Getting around the Nurburgring has little to do with getting around the UK at a crawl.

The 5 Cylinder is always going to sound better than 4 Cylinder TSI with artificial sound enhancements,

but i suppose by 2016 Ford are going to have to make there cars less noise to those outside the car just like all the other manufacturers wanting

Type Approval in the UK.

Other manufacturers are moving on with developing & producing Hybrid vehicles including sporting cars, & Electric Turbos & Superchargers

on Petrols & Diesels,

something we are not hearing from ford, they just like to use the term Eco-Boost.

The Leon did the first sub 8 minute FWD Ring lap and it only had less than a couple of K spent on it over the standand Leon 280.

The Renault was properly stripped out and you were paying £10K for the priveledge of the 100Kg lightening exercise.

The A3, Golf and Leon are quite similar, Octy clearly hindered by it rear overhang etc.

Had a Leon Cupra, hard suspension gets tiresome after a while.

Had a Mark 2 Escort, loved it, like many believe it was where Ford lost its way and saddened as Ford pulled out its car production from the UK.  Ford got stiched up by Citreon-Peugot on the diesel engine production getting the lemon end of the engine production, great when it borrowed Volvos T5 engines.  Glad to see Bridgend Engine plant doing well.

Please re-read my post, I never mentioned any brand new golfs or Leon. Or even reference to the Renault. Never even mentioned it having the fastest time. What I did mention was, the "equivalent priced golf" and residual value. so if you read it again, it's not hard to realise I was talking about the golf GTI. Do you see any 10 plate golfs sitting on garage sites with 20k price tags.

That green galaxy is foul, id like to push it off a cliff, flames or no flames

it's massively chavvy

it's massively chavvy

By who's standards.

By who's standards.

Difficult to say who sets the standards for 'chavness'

Maybe ask this guy though.
