Mk1 octy vrs running issues / red oil light

Featured Replies

Hi all, heres my story. . .

yesterday I gave the octy a blast, turn traction control off and gave it some revs, went from first into second when i had a massive flat spot, let off the accellerator and eased back on, all seem ok but when i accellerated hard it was really holding back. I turned traction control off but the light stayed on, no eml though. after turning the engine off and on all seemed ok and the tc light has gone off and has been since although ive been taking it easy. I had a simalar issue a couple months ago and had to replace the maf sensor.

now tonight crusing at 30mph, the red oil light came on flashing with audable beeping. I pull up and switched engine off. got out and checked for excessive leaks, non found i checked oil level which was down just above minimum which is worrying to say i topped it max about 2k miles ago and oil catch can seems quite full! ive took the oil cap off and there seems plenty of oil up top end (not dry).

I restarted and the light has stayed off, took it really easy to get home keeping below 2k revs and 30mph.

My questions are, is it likely theres alot of oil/vapour getting into maf and causing issues there, and if so? what would cause all the excessive oil getting into the breathers and catch can?

. . .and is the light just likely to be due to low level as im hoping its not the common oil pick up pipe?

and advice appreciated

thanks in advance

Well, the oil is going somewhere which is a worry and consumption!!...any contamination into the coolant?  Might be worth getting a compression test done.  What oil is it?

Its due a service, last service it had 5-30 oil which is what ive been using to top up.

no oil in coolant, it has a minor leak that seems to be from the rear corner somewhere and making its way onto the gearbox so will have to look into that, its not too bad tho as ive no drips on the drive way.

this morning ive removed the oil catch can which was half full of water! smelled a bit like petrol! ive emptied it cleaned it out and there was quite abit of gunge in the breather pipe so cleaned that out also. topped up the oil and will take ut steady see how it goes

I am going to go for the standard blocked oil pickup pipe.

Drop the sump, replace the pickup, reseal and then fill with new oil.

ive been for a little spin this afternoon, all seemed ok until i gave it some hard accelleration and the oil light came on again, now no matter how slow i drive, a few mins after starting the light comes back on. . . so guess im dropping the sump this week!

Red oil light is the oil pressure warning. As mbames said probably the pick up pipe in the sump. The more you drive it the more chance you kill the turbo as the oil isn't circulating properly and the turbo is at the top of the system.
