Look what Santa's just brought me!

Here's my new Elegance Estate 1.4 DSG in Denim Blue - not the best light to take the snap in - I'll try to get some better pics on a brighter day.

Ordered on 8th Sept, was registered on 2nd December and delivered today.

Spare wheel

Heated front seats

LED rear lights

Electric tailgate

Auto dimming door mirrors

Front mudflaps

Sad to see my O2FL go but looking forward to getting used to the O3. Build week was delayed to week 47 so I got the bonus of the front assist and XDS.  :)

Have to study the manual later and set things up the way I want them - I would have spent some time in it at lunchtime but I'm too busy at work.

I'll report back on anything I particularly notice that's better / worse than the O2.

Very nice... and has got me thinking.  Someone round the corner from me also has an O3 estate, not sure what spec but he also has LED rears and not Xenons.  Is this a popular thing?  I would have thought if you're going to get the fancy rears lights then you'd get the fancy front ones too?

I shall look out for you whilst driving round... if you see a black vRS estate flash at you you'll know why  :D .  Oh, and where did you get yours from?

Xenons were too expensive for me to consider. It's a private lease - we no longer get company lease cars so I've taken a car allowance in the form of a salary increase - I had to stick to a budget so had to be select about the options, or I would have had Canton, Columbus and no doubt a few others as well!

Numberplate says Ridgeway, so I assume it's either Ridgeway Newbury or Ridgeway Reading.

I'll keep a lookout for you... I've not seen any other Denim Blue estates around so I shouldn't be too difficult to identify!

My L&K Estate 1.8TSi DSG is due for delivery next week so I was interested to read that you have benefited from having XDS.

I have not been able to find out if my car has XDS or not but if anybody knows please advise.

If your car was built after 3rd November 2014 then it should have XDS..

If your car was built after 3rd November 2014 then it should have XDS..

My car was built in either week 48 or 49 (end November/early December) so I am pleased that my car will have XDS.

I have just compared the new November brochure with the August version from which I made my purchase decisions and note a few upgrades as follows:

1- XDS as advised.

2- Front Assist

3- Lane Assistant

4- Active Cruise Control.

5- Under seat storage drawer on passenger side.

When making my comparisons I was looking at the L&K spec but I think a number of these upgrades will be on other specs.

ACC isn't standard, just regular CC...

Can anyone tell me whether this is the same setup as per the Mark II Octy? Ie stalk on the left? Is there an option to increase/decrease mph by increments of 1 AND 5mph or just 1mph?

No lane assist either....

Check have you the splinth for removing plastic nut wheel covers

Can xds (setting how it's software) be enabled with vcds?

I've not seen any other Denim Blue estates around so I shouldn't be too difficult to identify!

Unless it was you coming out of the garden centre with the funny name on the road to Newent an hour or so ago, then there is another denim blue estate in these parts...

If you have the correct ABS controller - but until someone else tries it out I'm not going messing with the coding on the ABS controller :)

I have it anyway :)

Well, I'm steadily getting used to the new car. Some noticeable differences to the O2FL I had before it (in no particular order):

It's bigger and it feels it when you drive it!  I get the impression the turning circle isn't as good as it feels less manoeuvrable, though I've yet to be in a position where I can really test this.

Definitely faster! Even against the old car that was thoroughly run in and loose, the new one is noticeably quicker.

Feels smoother, especially pulling away from standstill, though this may have been the dsg in the old car starting to play up as it was a bit juddery at times.  Seems to be quieter too.

Throttle seems to lag a bit - when I press the pedal not much happens in the first few millimetres, then it goes; I expect the car the accelerate as soon as I put pressure on the pedal. I'll experiment with the Sport setting more, but didn't notice much difference when I tried it for a short while, although this was just with gentle driving.  Sport steering feels similar to the old car's standard steering, Normal is very light, I think I prefer it in Sport setting, so I'll probably end up using Individual once I've settled on the best combination.

Heated seats are nice - the wife absolutely loves them!  The electric boot has already proved it's worth for ease of opening when carrying stuff to load in; the kids fight over opening and closing the electric boot though, hopefully the novelty will wear off as there have been tears over this...

More space in rear.  Generally feels quite nice inside, though I'm not convinced it's better quality than the O2.  Various storage places have disappeared.  Variable boot floor doesn't seem as sturdy as the O2 (I wouldn't feel confident sticking quarter of a tonne of paving slabs in it as I did with the O2 once) plus I miss the covered side cubby holes either side of the boot - these were great for storing stuff out of sight and out of the way.

External styling is nicer and more 'upmarket'.  Door mirrors are smaller.

Some pics below, not the best quality as they were taken with my mobile. The car's now a bit grimy so I doubt I'll get top quality photos for a while, by which time my 'precious over my new car syndrome' might have waned and I'll be treating it just like I did the old one...
