Electric window problem...

Featured Replies

I'm hoping to get to the bottom of this, searching brings similar results with no answers.

Typically about a month ago both my front windows stopped working... Next time I got in the car they both worked again. This happend about 10 times until now they just don't work.

- I checked the fuses, which are fine as expected since it's an intermient fault.

- I checked the wiring going to the door, took the rubber sleave off and inspected them, all is fine.

- I didn't know how to test the switch accurately as it has a few lives and earths which do different things like the central locking, so I just replaced it and tested mine at the same time on another fabia.

I had a free weekend so stripped the door card down. If I unplug the window motor (which is also a module) and plug it straight back in the windows will work untill the ignition is switched off and on again then they do nothing.

I can hear a module beside the pedals also clicking as I unplug and plug the motor back in so I'm not sure if it's the motor or the module at fault.

I think you need vag-com to investigate. Further , new switch on both dides or just drivers ? Usually a bad earth or loose connections brings up these type of faults , electric is lazy and will short to the nearest point rather than going through a circuit fuses and switch all dry , check in the dark with fuse box and switch exposed ? I once found a short on my motorbike that way . sorry I can't help more

Yea Id be inclined to say the switch packs playing up.

Hello. You will have 2 thick wires going to the module one will be brown this is your earth and the other will be red and white this is your main live check these out and if they are Ok then i will suspect faulty Linbus signal from the master module to the slave. Checking Linbus is a very tricky operation which involves removing all the control units in that circuit. The drivers window motor is the master and the front passenger is the slave. I would put my money on drivers side window module has a faulty linbus. Try a new or known good one but there will be a software version number make sure you use the same or a higher numbered version. Switch packs are also prone to failure.
