leaking liquid crystals on dashboard display screen

Featured Replies

Hi

I have noticed leakage on the screen which is slowly spreading. Has anyone else had this problem and if so can just the screen be replaced or do I need the whole thing replacing.

Dealer wasn't at all helpful said it would need replacing at a cost of £860 (ouch) The car is only 4 years old.

Is it a Fabia II?

Find a car in a scrap yard and pinch the LCD from there :)

Easy enough to do

Thanks for the advice.

I was told that I couldn't use one from another car as it would have been programmed to that car and that I would have to have a new one programmed to my car.

My car is a 2010 Fabia not sure if 1 or 11

It's a MKII mate and you are in the wrong forum really. Ideally needs a mod to move it to the right one

Although I doubt there is a huge difference but it could be a bit of a nightmare as beyond the quite difficult breaking down of the dash (probably requiring skill and care),

it would also require VCDS coding of the replacement dash to the key from similar threads I've read (should be able to search on that but probably best on the MK2 threads).

Thanks for this advice. Regards Janet

The actual clocks will be coded, but the LCD screen might not be :)

If you just get the screen itself repaired you shouldn't need any coding doing.

You may need basic settings doing for the power steering though but this may also reset itself after a drive.

If you swap the whole dash over you will need the mileage correcting and immobiliser re-programming.

If you don't have your SKC code then specialist tools are required to read this from the dash pods.

Can you split the clocks and dash ? Oo didn't know that I thought they were altogether.

I haven't been back there myself and done a split down of the dash like that, I'd be quite nervous of it myself! (Then again, there is always a "first time").

I suppose the closest I came to that area was pulling down the lattice of wiring around the steering column when I needed to get to the bulk head to do the "correct" connection to ECU for cruise control (and that wasn't a laughing matter either).

I'd hate to take on the dash breakdown - although if there is a comprehensive guide on that would help ? ( Although for the above is for MKII so won't be quite the same anyway).

For all the effort I think I'd take it somewhere myself ! Unit 18 or some German/Audi/Skoda independant specialist.

Yes the instrument cluster comes out of the dash. Not that hard or complicated to do either.

You can then have the cluster dismantled and repaired.

This also allows for a retrofit of the maxidot. This is possible in the Mk1 and Mk2 Fabia aswell as most others like Octavia, Superb etc.

Any pics of the affected area?

I may be able to do a little step by step for you
