Not ...

What was that rubbish?!

Oh dear,

I'm sorry but the 205GTi was and still is a legend and designed and built when cars actually had character,

I was gutted to have to sell my 205 gti earlier this year.... :'(   hopefully one day i will own another.

Must admit when I first saw the opener and the 205 I thought (hopefully) 'surely not'.

And then the new thing came into view and like Meg of the Volvo's, I thought 'Oh dear'.

Gaz

Looks like it's already got panels from the breaker's yard fitted

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear................

No matter how hard they try, they will never re-create anything as iconic as the 205 GTi

I don't think the 208 gti looks that bad, that advert was bloody awful though.

The 208 is the 205 for the computer gamer generation. That add shows it.

205gti every time... 1.6 for day to day, 1.9 for some lift off oversteer just like the hot hatches of the time.

The advert dose not show it in the service centre at a pug dealer when it brakes down. As for the rest of the add I will be contacting ofcom to complain about over stating what a product is capable of doing.

Merry Christmas.

They do seem to have a few engine issues,

Had a couple at work thats needed new heads due to the cams setups destroying themselves,

Worrying bit is is that it was a joint BMW/Peugeot engine (same one used in mini's)

The diesel engine used in the mini is a peugeot lump. Same one found in the 1.6 mazda's, ford, citroen, volvo yada yada. I thought the mini's petrol engine had chrysler beginnings?

Why the hell does it screech to a halt at 1:26 With that snow there there would be no tyre squeal. They do the same thing on grass too these chase cars.

When they first started making the new Minis, the petrol engines were derived from a Chrysler lump as used in the Neon. The diesel was sourced from Toyota as used in the Yaris.

BMW has a stake in the PSA group which includes Ford, Peugoet, Citroen, with some collaborations with Toyota and Mitsubishi.

The current Mini lineup uses a mix of PSA engines and BMW's own

Any more details then let me know......i wouldnt be modding it,it will be staying standard.

Calm down chaps, it's meant to be a little tongue in cheek.

If you prefer I'm sure they could have knocked out the usual tat where some bloke is driving a long a twisty scenic road smiling to his wife in the passenger seat

The fact is the 205 was aimed at the younger generation, as is the 208, hence this advert.

Times change and all of us old enough to remember the 205 simply 'don't get it' anymore!

I doubt whether the price of the 208 GTi will be within reach of many of the younger generation @ £19100  :)
