cambelt intervals

Featured Replies

Hi. Looking through the cars history, the cambelt was changed jan 2012 at 120k. It now sits at 143k and nearly 3 years since. When does it need changing? Thanks

Every 4 years or every 60k miles, whichever occurs first I think

Original czech manual says every 180.000km and doesn't says anything about years (I think I still have a copy).

And it says after 90.000km at every 30.000km must be inspected by an authorized mechanic and he has the final word.

But the dealer wants to change it every 4years,or maybe at every oil change if possible.

Ok thanks for the info. Id rather change it every 4 years than risk it breaking but i know what u mean lulianE. Iv heard a few ppl mention you have to change the water pump to?

you should do water pump, also renew coolant and thermostat too if you get the chance

the gates kits are excellent and also come with the hydraulic tensioner - all parts are the same as oem too, gates belt, ntn tensioner

I did mine last month and now have to change the thermostat - wish i'd done it at the time.

My car is 2001 model, and I bought it 6 year ago when it was 8 years old.I bought the car from Honeywell Garret, yes the great turbo manufacturer,so the car hysory is mint.

In 8 years it had 1 cambelt changed and no water pump, was done by the dealership.

Last year I changed the cambelt for the second time it car's life and water pump.Every thing looks fine.

Everyone is free to do whatever he want, but when VW says 180k interval,it means something

And yes,the Gates kit is the best imo,I was pleased to see that the tensioner and role are made by NTN exactly like the OEM parts wich I just remove from my car

I just checked autodata and it says 180k or 4 years
